BOSS4 @ Killingworth
Arrived a t tad later than hoped (slept in) and was surprised to see so many cars there already. 84 competitors - wow, best yet.
Had an OK ride with few errors only a couple of in-decisions that cost me any time, and one over the handle bars episode but it was at reasonably slow motion with no injury to either bike or rider.
Decided from the outset that hills to north were too tough for me so went clockwise on the southern section. I think my micro route choices were OK as I did relatively OK compared to many that usually beat me. (see routegadget entry
http://garingal.com.au/cgi-bin/gadget3/reitti.cgi?... )
For the most part felt OK breathing was fairly good but then I felt terribly weak when I had to get off bike and push up a couple of steeper sections. I pumped up my tyres a lot harder this event and except for slightly less control I reckon the physical effort was reduced by about 10-20%.
Thanks to AP (that's Mr Power) for setting a course that I could mostly weasle my around the hills rather than have to actually ride up too many. Was fun on the single track even acounting for the extra traffic out there.
PS my distance is only a guess as I forgot my GPS.
....and close to home I was running a bit late so was riding without checking my map. Took a right at a forked intersection rode 30m and worried it might actually turn east away from finish so slammed on brakes to take a quick check of map before proceeding further only find Michael R. running into the back of me. I didn't even suspect he was there. Very low impact and a good test of his brakes as well.
