NOY race 55:58 [4] 4.4 km (12:43 / km)
shoes: Silva Piraya 1

HVC @ Wallaroo

My best run for a long time eventually turned sour losing about 8 minutes on the second last control.

I started late and hadn't intended looking at the times but the commotion at the results board about some unknown female haviing easily the fastest time pricked my interest.

It happened to be Tracy Marsh with most not knowing she was nee Bluett.
Her time of 42 minutes looked a real challenge.

After 8 controls I was looking at my watch (well Andrews 405 as I had forgotten to bring my new 405 so he lent me his) and started doing some quick calcks on estimated distance left. Only 2 controls to go. Easy. About 2.5 minutes to that one, less than a minute to the next and about a 3 minute run up the road, wow about 45-48 minutes. Not good enough to beat Tracy but surley competitive in the M50+A.

That's when it all went wrong. Found the rocky ground but got confused in the creek. Nearly ran down to the control but veered away and all up lost about 6-8 minutes. As MTBO_Fred said, I was very frustrated.

Apart from that I had a fairly good run especially considering my lack of training of any sort over the last couple of weeks.

Some people have said it was a bit thick in places but I loved the area. Sure low visibility and sometimes the need to run around stuff, but that is great as it slows down the runners. I never really had any times where my movement was impeded to any serious extent. Great area for me. Can't wait to go there again.

Thanks Denis for the mapping and courses. Once again excellent.

See some of you soon down south at Vic or even ACT and others at WMOC. If only I was fit. Perhaps towards the end I might be with all the events well be doing.

Note

No training to speak about......been too busy.

Just managed to sort out our immenent Orienteering holiday.

Mapgirl has to go to a conference (late notice as she was actually supposed to be on holidays) in Melbourne next Thu/Fri which gets her close but leaves me having to drive 1200 km's by myself.

Instead of that I booked a van and a flight but the van fell through.

After a lot of stress and searching have finally just now booked (and have confirmed) a brightly coloured "Hippie Camper" van, so keep an eye out for us. Only a low roof with crap stove but at only $4 a day dearer than a compact car (but uses more fuel) it seems a bargain. We are keeping it and driving right through to the ACT events and then even the WMOC series and then dropping it in Sydney, 24 days in total.

Can't wait.....but now to start my training, a bit belatedly. I think I'll commence with a bit of easy tennis tonight and then the HV Champs Sunday at Wallaroo.

Finally got a Garmin 405 GPS HR watch.

Now I need to go training to try it out.....maybe tomorrow.
