Orienteering race 34:58 [4] 3.0 km (11:39 / km)
shoes: VJ Integrators

Day 3 of Easter at Curryjong Rivulet

Shorter than usual course in very rocky and rough terrain, no major errors on what without the rocky underfoot terrain would have been quite easy bu the rocks pushed you off line and most time was spent concentrating on the feet and I can see how those that lost time did not keep on their lines.

Ended up 8th on the day and overall which after a poor start on Day 1 was pretty fair.

John Scown won each day and had impressive speed over the ground.

No GPS not sure what went wrong but I thought I started it but it seems I did not.

Day 1 Easter Carnival. 2km walk to the start with plenty of climb but a nice sunny morning / day and an early 10:11 start.

Got to #1 Ok but drifted too low on #2 and saw Ricky at a control on the M21E course but did not pick up that it was down the gully from my feature so stuffed around for too long before I worked out where I was.

Longish leg to #3 mostly on tracks and was struggling to move at a decent pace and very subtle gullies to work out at the end.

Screwed up #4 badly was only 100m or so but took a wrong line and was on more rock along the contour, went back to #3 and started again. Saw Paul Hoopman just above the cliff and he went to the left side I went to the right, I bashed my head on a rock scrabbling around to the control.

Leaving the control #4 I thought where is Paul, he can't run that fast too be out of sight so which rabbit hole did he go down?

Chugged along through #5, #6, #7 & #8 with no great problems just slow over the ground. Dropping down to #9 I saw Paul to my left and lead him into the control and then saw him get away over the last couple of controls

Overall 13th about half way up or down the field depending on if you are a half full or half empty person with a "could do better" result but not a disaster. Need to work hard over the next two days to get above the two Russell's

Prologue Sprint at UTAS Sandy Bay.

Lots of detailed route choice managed to get most of it right but lost a fair bit of time 8 to 9 (~ 2 minutes) when I came out on the road and misread which junction I was at and headed up the hill looking for a small path which was down hill! Also got spun around at the last controls where I came out to the road and saw the oval but it was the different one and took 30 seconds or so to work out why it did not fit my reality!

Easter warm up event at the Domain Hobart

Had a jog around the trails, looking for every decreasing sized rocks, started at 1m, them 50cm and finally "small boulder near the corner of the car park"

Nice easy way to start the carnival, spotted very nice red parrots
