Orienteering race 33:44 [4] 4.84 km (6:58 / km) +6m 6:56 / km

Last race of the COC / Fishbones Carnival.

Was planned to be a Chassing Start and I would have been around 18 minutes off the lead but due to a large number of MP, DNF, DNS etc the organisers opted to swap to a Mass Start at 10:00am. So it was on for a fast race. The area was desd flat, with lots of grid tracks and intersecting small paths with mostly open runnable forest. A few patches of blueberries and the odd sticky section meant cutting across the forest blocks was a definite option but with the potential for the around the track option to be a good route as well..

Hung on to the lead group for the first 3 or 4 controls and then it started to stretch out and I lost sight of Rick Bresman who was definitely the fastest runner in M55, M45 was on the same course so lots of people going the same way.

At the 2nd control someone called "Hornets" and the next thing wack in the back of my leg a felt a sting then a couple more. Only thing to do was keep going and let them string the folks behind me!

Was in and out of seeing other runners most ot the way but was in the lead of my group at #10 and thought here is good route choice and went down the track to #12 and onto #13 was surprised to see Rick and the lead bunch at #14 and thought how clever am I that I slipped past them!

So one of the fastest races for a long time and good run despite skipping a control and getting the bee stings. Some others had 20 or so stings so I got off lightly.

Now on the way to explore Cape Breton with Robyn & Bruce Rennie for week.
