Day 5

Was a minute outside the chase and started off first out of the non-chasers. Lost 10 mins at no.1. Got to the stream just before fine but didn't go far enough to the right and ran round in a circle for a few minutes. Pretty stupid really. Didn't really make any other mistakes a part from that but walked part of the way to no.5 up the hill. Joined a pack from 7-9, although took a slightly different route half way down the long leg and reappeared just in front of them nearer to the control. Pack went slightly wrong to the next control and ended up at the wrong drinks control. After that I walked 2 legs in the semi-open. Others seemed to pass me but looking at the results afterwards not sure who these people were as everyone who started around me took longer than I did so maybe they made mistakes after I left them.

Ended up beating someone overall by 10 seconds, due to a slightly faster run in time. Ended up in 90th out of 107 finishes so slightly better than last year, still disappointed by the result though.

Day 4

Best day by far. Mainly due to not losing concentration. Also felt like I was going to have a good race that day all week so maybe a bit of positive thinking was also behind the result. Lost 1.5 mins to no.1 though and maybe a couple of 10/15 secs in the middle of the course. It almost felt I was rushing out there but it seemed to work. Maybe it means I'm usually too casual...

The guy who finished 4th started 3 mins behind me but kept him just behind me from no3 to no7 and he overtook on the long leg and that was the last I saw of him, so he didn't really help drag me round.

Was really hot on top of the mountain, although the chairlift ride to the start was a nice change.

Day 3

Too many hills. Lost a couple of minuted overshooting no.1, lost time on 4 walked last half to no.5. Not far enough on 8 before I cut up valley, should have gone round top of valley to control anyway. Walked up v steep bit to 16, though managed to put a spurt in for the last 1.5k

Day 2

Was going well up until I found an open area on the way to 7 which wasn't on the map and proceeded to waste 5 minutes running round trying to find the control that was suppose to be on the edge of it. Eventually went a bit further on to relocate off a marsh and found it.

Wasn't sure where I was going to one but maybe came across it more by luck. Map read fine along the way to 2 then couldn't find it when I got there. Lost 10 mins, bit frustrating. Got to 8 before 7 but that didn't lose much time. No.11 made a stupid mistake thinking i'd missed the stream junction when I hadn't then ran to a huge open area couldn't relocate and ended up wandering around for a while wishing I was anywhere else but orienteering. Eventually found the right semiopen area on the way to the road to relocate. 50 mins behind.

Got to our chalet just outside Lindvallen. Started out on a run with Jack and Mikey but they wanted to go up some mountain and I wanted to conserve some energy. Both later retired on the last day...

Alderley Edge

Map was awful. Bracken was shown in a green hatching which made it much more difficult to read the other detail. Also made no difference to my route choices so a waste of time putting it on. Colours weren't good either. Wasted 2.5 mins on no10 looking in a large open area that wasn't marked instead of the open area I needed. Lost a little bit of time at 6+13.

Felt tired while I was out so maybe I need a bit of a rest before oringen.

DEE/MDOC Challange

Wasn't expecting to be running that much but ended up running about 6k. Was a bingo-o round woods and farm, belonging to an MDOCer then a bit of a run round the roads and footpaths outside the farm. Not sure how long I was out and not sure how far i ran, lost the map.

Felt left shin couple of times while running round.

Played some footy afterwards and the right shin seems to be v slowly be getting better.

Round Frodsham hill. Took a map and did a bit of navigation. Every so often got a sharp shooting pain in left shin. Stopped a few times to remove thorns still in there since Halkyn. Whether that was the cause I don't know. Hopefully next time I go for a run it'll be ok.

Out to Moel Arthur with Danger. Went round to Cilcain then up the normal way to Moel Famau and back round the ridge to the car. Didn't feel great. Stomach is still weird.

Set off ok but stomach still isn't right and started walking, eventually turned round and came back. Jogged the last few hundred metres which was fine but decided not to go back out but to give it a rest.

Might not have been the best idea to go and do this after being sick for a couple of days. Navigation was easy and only lost time on a control that was in the WRONG place.
