Orienteering race 51:53 [4]

Middle course at Pig. Due to wet, light green, flat areas, much less consistency and more hesitancy than Fri & Sat. But still a solid run. Not very confident on 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, but kept hitting them - run to big trail on #4 would have been faster. Brain-dead on 2nd half of 8 - small parallel error, then read features correctly, ignored them -2 minutes. Veered far right bounced back. Good finish despite including 'heads-over-heels' fall down steep slope leaving 10.
2nd in M60 to Bob Lux on Sat, Sun, and combined. In deeper M55, would have been around 6th.

Running warm up/down 12:00 [1]

Tried to get legs moving and heart pumping on long walk/jog to start - body didn't like it. Energy was okay once on course.

Orienteering race 1:33:05 [4]

Long Green course at Pig. Very physical - climb, rose, mud. Excellent execution and route choice except for 4-5: "run right and flat" definitely better than "straight with one steep climb and one mild climb with thick rose". Stayed in map contact with a couple minor gaps - then reconnect. A well-earned 2nd in M60, edging Nikolay G by 30 sec. 1st in 1:17 by Bub Lux.

Orienteering 30:00 [1]

Walking and jogging on model event map with Fran. Very useful. Distinct veg. boundaries seemed weak; ruined fences hard to find; veg well-mapped; minor trails and water features not mapped.

Orienteering race 49:00 [4]

S-5: Excellent route choice and map contact - strong pace.
5-6: "run to #5 on stream; turn right to #6 on stream" - so easy that I pulled a 180 and even though I was reading map for vegetation, I didn't catch 180 for a while. Having climbed to a ridge for better running, when I reversed, I followed the wsrong stream! 45 degree off! How?? Relocated, confirmed by returning to #2, #2 - #6 was clean. 7 minute error.
6-7: Went low right through trashy green to save climb; high and left through open woods was much better.
7-F: Solid orienteering - not as consistent and strong as S-5.

Course was less Green and much less climb than expected.

3rd in M60 behind Nikolay G with 46 and Bob Bullions with 47. M55 was very strong with about 6 runners under 36 min.

Cycling 40:00 [1]

Brought car to Walter's on S Brentwood at 8:30. I was ready to bike to Metro, Metro to UMSL, bike to FVCC (and let Fran worry about catching up to me later to get me home). But car would be ready 'in time'. So I biked:
9:00 - Galleria Starbuck's pre-opening of stores to read paper - coffee and banana nut bread.
10:00 - Lens Crafter to order new glasses. (Mechanic calls: "need front brake pads and rotors - ready by 2 or so".)
11:00 - Border's to buy map and to do some prep work - coffee.
12:00 - Whole Foods to read Sci Fi and eat lunch - a few Asian buffet items. Saw old math teacher friend Steve Zenk - younger than me and retired 7 years.
Whole Foods does not have a bike rack! Why would any cyclist patronize them???
1:30 - Tilles Park to do STL PD NYT crossword puzzle and nap.
3:00 - Pick up car and drive to college to teach.

Nice day!
