Road Biking 8:30:00 [3] 180.0 km (2:50 / km) +5000m 2:29 / km

La Marmotte. Official Time - 8hrs 7 mins.

Tough as expected, over the Col du Glandol, Col du Telegraphe , Col du Galibier then the small hill up to alpe d'huez.

I must have been one of the last starters to cross the start line which meant passing thousands of riders in the first 30km which was not easy.

Desending was hairy at times avoiding the many crashes and first aid crews. Why risk it..

Very hot in the valleys much cooler on top. Many good learning points for the next time (Bell on bike, take sunglasses off in the tunnels, stop at town water fountains & treat the foot of alpe d'huez as half way).
6 PM

Road Biking 50:00 [3] 25.0 km (2:00 / km) +90m 1:58 / km

Down from alpe d'huez to the car. More breaking than pedalling.
