Orienteering race 43:29 [3] ***** 3.2 km (13:35 / km) +185m 10:32 / km
spiked:6/15c shoes: Scott Supertrac RC

Lakes 5, Day 5, Dale Park(Graythwaite), M60L
Foul weather - very wet, which meant wet and steamy glasses and made navigation almost impossible. Basically stumbled my way round making lots of mistakes, most notably at 6-7-8. Surprised to be only 2+ mins down on DonP who won on 41.08. Dixie didn't run - broken again! - which meant I won overall almost by default. DonP got less points for winning today than he did for finishing 3rd yesterday and finished 4tho/a - stupid scoring system!

Note

Have finally been brave enough to look at the splits and they aren't as bad as I expected. In fact I got fastest split on 2 - it just didn't feel like that at the time. If only I hadn't got so frustrated with my glasses and not gone all headless chicken...……….!

Orienteering race 47:02 [5] *** 8.0 km (5:53 / km) +95m 5:33 / km
spiked:18/20c shoes: Scott Supertrac RC

Lakes 5, Day 4, Askham Fell, M60L
Fast & furious! Compass & pacing on the tricky section from 1-5 which worked well with no misses. Started to see my 2 min man (DonP) on the way to 7 and reeled him in and passed him 8-9. Couple of hesitations in the gorse section at the end but nothing serious. DonP 49.06, Dixie 53.11 - 2-2!

Orienteering race 56:36 [4] *** 5.9 km (9:36 / km) +240m 7:58 / km
spiked:11/14c shoes: Arctic Claw 300

Lakes 5, Day3, Whinlatter, M60L
Map of area didn't make it look inspiring, but the planner had done a good job and there was lots of genuine route choice - not sure I always got the best one - definitely didn't 12-13 (1 min). Also slightly hesitant at 3 - trouble interpreting the green - and also missed at 7(~1 min) - vegetation again difficult to work out and control was well hidden on a very dubious ditch/gully - I imagine this would have tracked up for late starters. Dixie 54.07 - 1-2

Orienteering race 46:39 [4] **** 6.2 km (7:31 / km) +300m 6:04 / km
spiked:13/15c shoes: Scott Supertrac RC

Lakes 5 - Day 2 - Angle Tarn Pikes - M60L
Weather a lot better than yesterday! Could use my glasses to read the map which made a big difference. It was almost a matter of how fast you could run. Was perhaps going too fast at times and made a couple of silly mistakes - drifted off-line going to 6 and got drawn to another control at 9 when I almost knew it was wrong (1 min). Dixie 47.07 - 1-1, still all to play for!

Orienteering race 52:56 [3] **** 5.9 km (8:58 / km) +290m 7:12 / km
spiked:9/13c shoes: Scott Supertrac RC

Lakes 5 Day 1 - Silver Howe & Blea Rigg - M60L
Feeling a bit weary after yesterday, particularly on the climbs, but ground it out. Also trouble reading the map with all the rain - had my glasses on, but never took them of the top of my head. No serious misses, mostly hesitations, but once or twice was liviing a bit on the edge - most notably at 10, but managed to correct it without serious damage. I'll take that given the conditions - Dixie 51.42, DonP 64.38 - Game on! ;-)

Hill running race 2:34:36 [5] 22.5 km (6:52 / km) +1420m 5:13 / km
shoes: Scott Supertrac RC

Ben Rinnes Hill race - SHR counter - tough, maybe went too fast on the way out and suffered for it on the way back. Hence only 4th V60. Good warm-up for the Lakes 5!
