Lake District Mountain Trial - Classic course. One on the bucket list and it was certainly a classic! Started, and was supposed to finish, at Gatesgarth near the SE end of Buttermere. However due to the "biblical" weather which rolled in over the Lake District once the race was underway, the course was cancelled at control 5 and anyone who had made it that far (over 50% of the field had already retired) was told to make their way to Seatoller from where they would be transported back to the finish. I had already run 24km in 4hrs 10min by no. 5 and there would have been at least another 12km to complete the rest of the course, back into the horrendous wind and rain. As it was I still had a 6km walk/jog down to Seatoller over Glaramara which wasn't very pleasant (I was starting to get seriouslty cold when I stopped competing) and took almost an hour. They were showing results at the finish up to no. 5 which had me in 21st - of the 42 who had made it that far - 1st V60 by an hour (there were only 2 of us mad enough to do the Classic) but I would also have been 3rd V50. They didn't have a prize giving and will make a decision later about whether to present prizes or not. It would have been a tough course even in good weather but with the wind and rain (and the clag down) it was brutal - toughest race I have done. Only major mistake was on the leg from 4-5 when I got confused in the clag at Esk Hause (possibly not helped by tiredness) and was heading off 90 degrees out - fortunately corrected fairly quickly but still cost about 8 minutes. Also not certain about my route choice 2-3.
Edit: I have been awarded the prize for 1st V60
