Orienteering race 33:44 [3] *** 4.7 km (7:11 / km) +75m 6:39 / km
spiked:14/18c shoes: Arctic Claw 300

Scottish Relays, Binning Wood, Handicap 14 with Kirstin & Ian. Won handicap 14 class easily and o/a senior handicap by a healthy 7s after an eyeballs out sprint finish with Big Jon. To be fair to him he had just run across Scotland! Apparently I had gone out in 1st place but due to marshalling duties and the usual woefully inadequate commentary I wasn't aware of this. Ran most of it on my own, a bit scrappy in places. Jon appeared at the control before we re-entered the assembly field and set off on the spectator loop. Got him on the only decent hill I had run up all weekend.

Orienteering race 53:24 [4] *** 7.1 km (7:31 / km) +140m 6:51 / km
spiked:21/26c shoes: X-Claw 275

Scottish Champs, Gullane, M60 - 2nd. People on other course - particularly those starting in Yellowcraigs - were commenting that they found it quite physical. I felt our course wasn't at all physical with a lot of either path running or running on flat areas between the sandunes and also wasn't particularly technically challenging. Didn't make any major mistakes - missed the thickets at 6 & 10 which wasn't surprising when I couldn't see them on the map! Slightly low at 5. Slightly right at 9. A bit cautious at 21 when I couldn't quite figure out the vegetation. Could account for the odd second here and there but certainly not the 49 DonP beat me by (it will be interesting to see what Winsplits says) - just can't run fast enough in this type of terrain. I am sure Dixie could find 2s here or there tho! ;-)
Edit - Winsplits says I lost 37s at 6 - possibly when I climbed sandune to go round thicket only to discover control was back down at path level! Then 24s at 10 when I couldn't see what I was looking for on the map - game over :-(
