Orienteering race 3:41:47 [3] 21.0 km (10:34 / km) +1000m 8:32 / km
shoes: X-Claw 275

WCOC, Copeland Chase, Clough Head/Threlkeld, 4 hour score option. It was all score classes but the 4 hour one had a compulsory loop of 5 controls which you could tackle in either direction at any point during your run but once you started you had to do the whole loop before you visited any other controls. There was also a section of the map on an area of peat hags which was included as an insert at 1:7500 (the rest of the map was 1:15000) with seven 30 point controls. Sounds a bit complicated but actually worked quite well and certainly made you think. Got a couple of controls before I started the compulsory loop and 16 after. Arrived back 18 mins early and might with hindsight have been able to get another control but it was difficult to judge and I was pretty pooped by the finish and it wouldn't have improved my position anyway. 5th on 790 points behind Steve Birkinshaw, M45 on 1000 (full house), Jack Eyre, M21 on 950, Duncan Archer, M40 on 940 and Zack Hudd, M18 on 880.
