Note
(rest day)

Wandering around at Balmoral watching Robbie's race and the race of every else behind him. Most impressive.
T: 59.45

Note

Great trip to Turkey. A superb introduction to international orienteering for a lot of youngsters, who made the trip an awful lot of fun. The forests were great, the weather was almost perfect for running, and the company was excellent too. Not only that they even gave a medal on the podium to a hanger on.

Note

And so endeth a great week.
10 AM

Trail / Road Run 53:00 [3] 9.0 km (5:53 / km)

Pre travel with Jenny, Kirstin, Lindsay and Blair. Couldn't persuade anyone else although what could have been better than 18 degrees approx, lovely sunshine and a fabulous Turkish forest.

Through the village from hotel, along the dual carriageway central reservation to the long distance area. Once there Blair took off to complete an unfinished O course from Monday. The rest of us wandered through the pinewoods, and up and down the ridges stopping for Mediterranean and mountain photo opportunities. Pure hell.

Orienteering (WSOC Friendship Team even) 30:00 [5] 6.0 km (5:00 / km)

Urban team event in Kemer with Spaniard and a Kiwi. I did 24 of the controls and probably got the best of if it running beside the sea. Nice views from controls on the raised promontory.
Minor Spanish disaster meant we were somewhat off the pace but good fun.

No w/u or w/d.

Warm up/down 5:00 [3]
shoes: ORoc 340

Minimal before racing, and minimal after with Kirstin.

Orienteering race (WSOC Middle M2 School) 27:30 [5] 2.7 km (10:11 / km) +105m 8:32 / km
shoes: ORoc 340

Doing the Banchory young lads course again. Messed up 1 and 2 but reasonably clean through the rest. Rough or what though. Very stoney and not straightforward technically.

In touch with the lads but never been so pleased to see what they did. 1st, 2nd and 4th and with Eilidh Cs 2nd albeit n/c, and the younger Scottish Select girls being 1st, 5th and 6th a truly brilliant day.

Trail / Road Run 42:00 [3] 7.6 km (5:32 / km)
shoes: Pegasus 30 (blue/grey)

Tekirova rest day. Lovely sunshine.
Very much a recovery run with Kirstin and Jenny from hotel through backstreets and along wooded road into the first village houses. Back the same way ending up on the beach with a short calf soak in the Med. Warmer than the Dee.

Warm up/down 5:00 [2]
shoes: ORoc 340

Minimal warm up after 5 hours of team duties in the sunshine at the world schools long race start.

Orienteering race (WSOC Long M2 School) 41:12 [5] 4.6 km (8:57 / km) +165m 7:36 / km
shoes: ORoc 340

Coaches mass start of the 8 courses an hour after real competitors.

Ran M2 School Select to be able to discuss it with the Banchory lads.
Loved it. Minimal undergrowth and very distinct rounded hills but stony underfoot in many places.

No real mistakes but not sure if straight was better than round on the long leg 4-5. Arse over elbow once with a few stony scrapes the outcome but no real damage.

Competitive enough with the youngsters. Pipped by JC.

Some great Scottish results, some disappointments and some mighty weird rules.

Orienteering 30:00 [3]
shoes: ORoc 340

Fairly gentle effort amongst the rough and tough of the model area. Steep hills, huge boulders, ruined temples, and deep rocky pits. Certainly not terrain for the feint hearted. Very humid too. Fun.
