Walk 1:10:00 [2]

Seathwaite, along the River Duddon through the oak wood to Birks. Up Harter Fell and down via Grassguards and Low Stoneythwaite.

Out for 4 ish. About 14k and 700m. With t.

Another very unlike Lakeland weather day. Tremendous, although hazy. Pint in Newfield after.

Managed to run all the climb in one go. Pleased.

Tuesday Apr 7, 2015 #

Note

Cracking Lakeland weather.
Fairly gentle wanderings over Hard Knott from the top of the pass and then down Mosedale and then back up the road.
With t, c and Sel.
Very pleasant recovery walk. Out for 3. Coffee and cake in the Newfield Inn. Good day.

Note

Very enjoyable JK and very pleased with progress on the calf. Great areas and courses.
On the start line two days running with the same current multiple world champion in JW, indeed also in essentially the same race in the relay. Not many sports can you do that when you're an aged veteran.

Warm up/down 5:00 [2]
shoes: ORoc 340

Token warm up in the start pen

Orienteering race (Jk 165+ relay) 31:03 [5] *** 4.0 km (7:46 / km) +180m 6:20 / km
spiked:17/18c

With AndyT and BigJon.
Loved this. 80+ teams in Vets class and then throw in the Womens Open on the same start and course.
First leg. Took a while to find no. 1 on the map and then it was pretty much straight uphill. Kept pretty much in touch with the national and international ladies, CT excepted, until the end of the long leg to 5 then a fair old number ran off into the distance. Was with, or just behind, SamG most of the way. He had the legs on me but just about kept on his heels. ClareW and a Swiss girl appeared and disappeared at 8 then occasionally could see the ladies train through the oak wood as they went further and further away. Slight miss at 16 but that's all.
5th back of M165+ class.
Team 5th too maybe 2 mins down on SYO.

Note

Maroc teams 1st and 2nd in the same JK relay. Now that has never happened before!

Delighted to have managed three JK days and to feel to have really raced the relay.

Warm up/down 10:00 [2]
shoes: ORoc 340

To start at Bigland.

Orienteering race (JK day 3 Bigland) 1:13:00 [5]
shoes: ORoc 340

A real boost.
Managed to run thus with no calf issues. Wasn't on my mind too much either.

Blew 1 mins at 7 by being too far left and was reasonably competitive to 10, then really messed up the long leg by going high, and compounded it by going down the wrong spur. Probably 7-8 mins gone. Didn't lose much more than 1 mins on the rest.

Chop 10 mins off next time :-)
