Trail 1:27:01 [3] 13.73 km (6:20 / km) +305m 5:42 / km
shoes: Pegasus 29 (red)

Thought about ElBrimmick or the parkrun but didn't really fancy either.

Early morning from Scolty cp. Round the back to the easternmost path, up to the signpost, then along the paths and forest tracks almost to Shooting Greens. Straight down, almost to the river by way of the steep single track, and then back via the Duncan's house. Very slow to start with particularly early on on the hills but kept grinding it out, then picked up the pace considerably later on. Nice time to be out.
With K. Both of us going ok but plenty long enough for today.

Trail 40:19 [3]
shoes: Pegasus 29 (red)

Very much a recovery run in Glen O'Dee with k. Heavy legged.
Muddy and windy.

Warm up/down 10:00 [3]
shoes: Pegasus 29 (red)

Pre and a little post Lumphanan. Some with k.

Road Running race (Detox 10k) 44:08 [5] 10.0 km (4:25 / km) +131m 4:09 / km
shoes: Pegasus 29 (red)

Wanted to do this to see where I'm at and not having raced much for a good while. No great expectations and half expected to run it with k.
Nice conditions although the recent wet weather made the 1.8k farm track very muddy.

Steady up the steep hill from the start, not far away from SR and GM. Could see TR and JR quite a bit ahead. Top of the steep hill at 2k in about 10. Started reeling in lots of folk suffering from the hill from then on..GM, JK and then TR at the start of the farm track. No one overtook me post the hill monster. Slipping all over the joint up there but left TR behind. Caught MN on the road down into the village and finished not far behind JR and probably DH. Won the family battle by about a minute. Nicely paced and felt very comfortable at the end. Beat most of the folk I wanted to.:-)

Happy enough. About 1.35 outside Lumphanan pb. No surprises but lots to work on.
K: 45.34
T: 64.08
Nice to see John Rocke getting it together in 2nd although some way behind Robbie.

Note

What for 2014?:
For me specifically, and I can only speak for me, it seems a mugs game to be too specific with performance targets, although I have the utmost admiration (and jealousy) for those of the same vintage who feel able to do that. I'm beginning to realise that holding the body together through 12 months is a great achievement so to a certain extent I'll be happy with that.

However, that's pretty boring and doesn't really provide the motivation desirable so here are the other targets.

Race at least once a month with certain qualifying constraints:

• No orienteering qualifies unless it's abroad, a national championship or involves planning, controlling, or organising at level B or above.
• No replication of distance in road running - so only one 5k, one 10k etc etc counts...unless abroad
• Only one hill race or cross country race may count..unless abroad also.
• Any number of triathlons, ski or swim races, duathlons, cycle sportives, races or personal physical challenges of a type that is in the spirit of this may qualify.

In terms of performance I stand by the comments above but it would be nice to:
• Dip under 40 again in a 10k and under 20 (maybe 19.30) in a 5...stretch goals these ones!
• At least match last years British Champs Long M55 position of 7/150
• Make the top 500 in a Maroc Jukola team
but I won't get too bent out of shape if I don't.

And best of all it would be good to:
• Keep running, biking, skiing, swimming and whatever
• Avoid injuries or at least manage them well
• Continue to avoid coughs and colds for the year. I'll put the current one, the first for two years, down as an aberration.
• Run with all family members at least once through the year (preferably more)...that may well prove as much of a challenge in 2014 as any of the above for spatial distribution reasons.

Happy New Year

Trail 40:00 [3]
shoes: XTalon 212

Scolty with k in the wind and rain. "Our" path to the deer gate has disappeared so took one of the mtb paths staright up to the east gate, at the top in 15 which is ok these days. Over the back and down to the main T, left on the main track and back. Good to get out in pretty grim conditions. Going fine. Just need to lose a kilo or two post-Christmas.

Note

Sick lifeguard. Abortive 6.30 am trip to Aboyne for swimming with c&k. We didn't fancy the gym in swim stuff.

Orienteering (Pudding Shaker photoO) 30:00 [3]
shoes: XTalon 212

Cracking day and nice to be back at Murray and Haughton Park. First time for a good while.

Some PhotoO (Score) controls were very challenging so a lot of time spent trying to identify stuff. Out for 65 mins or so but although there was unlimited time had agreed to be back for others. Managed about 38 controls correct which probably wasn't too bad. Didn't feel I'd done much of a run though...but made a nice festive change.
