XC Skiing 1:00:00 [3]

Couple of laps of a loop on the edge of Durris Forest with Tom, Stuart & Nancy whilst T and E walked. Previous skiers had cut the semblance of tracks. Skis running reasonably well. Great views looking down from above fog in Deeside. Skiing at -4.

Trail 1:11:50 [3] 13.01 km (5:31 / km)
ahr:157 max:170 shoes: Icebugs

With K from home through remnants of the wood at Hill of Banchory to Crathes. Wound around through the paths to the main gate and the Milton, then back along the railway line to George V park and home. Good steady pace all the way. Bit of give in the snow on the tracks so tough going in places particularly in the slushy parts.

Terrain 40:00 [3]
shoes: Icebugs

From Ballogie school. Went to have a recce before DNC race 7. Really tough work running up to the top of Ballogie Hill, I'm sure it wasn't so bad on Wednesday. Out of the trees it just about did for me, a bit easier following in deer footprints in the wood, and quite fun dropping down again. Serious case of armchair planning for this event..not looking forward to putting controls out!

Eventually gave up the running and resorted to taking photos instead.

Orienteering (Dess DNC) 37:58 [3]
shoes: Icebugs

Felt the hamstring was strong enough for a first crack of the 09/10 Deeside NIght Cup.

Survived the trek up the hill through the thigh deep snow in the field to get to registration at J&S's house.

Ran the Short but it was completely brilliant. Snow was magic and pretty runnable out of the open areas. Ran steadily and clean through 10 and then caught up CM and K at 11 but couldn't see the reflector behind the tree so thought I must be on the hill lower down so promptly climbed up losing probably 3 mins. Should have just followed those two who'd punched it without me noticing. Then faffed around a bit at 12 too. Still managed to squeak a very narrow 6 seconds win over K...phew...:-), although TG ran 36 I think.

Great night event!!

Warm up/down 10:00 [3]

Up and down through the field to J&S's. 21 starters tonight...real diehards, well impressive.

Turbo 50:00 [3]
shoes: Asics Gel Trail Sensor

After just being taxi for Beach Bum race (didn't think the groynes would be good for my hamstring), did 20 mins warm up / down and 30 minutes reasonably hard.

Note

Jukola team (Skotlanti 50) entered!
