Mtn Bike 52:00 [3] 9.9 km (5:15 / km) +164m 4:51 / km

With T.
Canadian Road from back of Bogieshiel over to Kilminity then looped back via Home Farm. Wet at times and chilly.

Wednesday Aug 30, 2017 #

Mtn Bike 1:45:00 [3] 25.0 km (4:12 / km) +300m 3:58 / km

Leisurely with T down to the DW then all the way to DAP for a coffee...tempted to bang on a local door for an extra one, but didn't in the end :-). Back the same way as far as Potties then took the track over the hill. Fun.

Trail 1:15:59 [3] 11.7 km (6:30 / km) +295m 5:46 / km

Deeside Runners - Glen Tanar
Lovely evening sunset and great for reacquainting myself with this session.
2 x 4 mins, 2 X 3, 2 X 2, 3 X 1 round the back of Baudy Meg. Tough as ever.
Smaller numbers tonight but nice group of ladies keeping me company towards the back..KH, A, JG, EC, and ANOther.
Glad I decided to make the effort...nearly didn't.

Monday Aug 28, 2017 #

Note

Knee a little sore from bashing it at Pendleton. Day off in order.

Trail / Road Run 40:00 [3] 6.0 km (6:40 / km) +55m 6:22 / km
shoes: Mudclaw 300 b/r

Parked in Barrowford.
With T up road to the L&L. Along the canal past the locks as far as the tunnel. No footpath alongside canal in there so headed back but looped around the reservoir on return journey. Nice bit of canal. A lot of unspoilt places tucked away round here.

Warm up/down 10:00 [3]
shoes: Mudclaw 300 b/r

In the fields by Pendleton.

Trail / Terrain Run 47:52 [3] 7.3 km (6:33 / km) +425m 5:05 / km
shoes: Mudclaw 300 b/r

Pendleton Fell Race after spending a good part of the morning tracking D, CH and MS in the Matterhorn Ultraks. Some race.
Rough and tussocky once out of the fields. Struggled up the first hill, but reeled in a lot of folk from then on.
Maybe 2nd V60, finished just behind 3rd lady.
Great setting for a fell race - picturesque village, great pub and a stream running down the main street for washing in. Lovely weather too. Glad to have not opted for the Pendle parkrun alternative.

Note

In all the races this year I've been overtaking loads of folk on the downhills but it's always playing catch up after a poor ascent. Maybe that's just what ageing does for you. Somewhat frustrating but what the heck..it's still fun. Nice to be slotting in a lot of races that I've not done before too. That's at least four new ones since mid June.

Trail 26:28 [3] 5.0 km (5:18 / km) +60m 5:00 / km
ahr:130 max:164

Leg stretch with a loop along the Leeds & Liverpool canal. Nice amongst the narrow boats. Feeling pretty good.

Thursday Aug 24, 2017 #

Trail 50:00 [3] 8.0 km (6:15 / km)
shoes: Mudclaw 300 b/r

Local wanderings up the back. Noted the refurbished track in Potties. Not a very useful one. Felt knackered for some reason.

Note

With AT. Again. 6 Day tentage. Ballater. Dried. Packed. Done. Good. Relief.

Wednesday Aug 23, 2017 #

Trail 35:00 [3] 4.5 km (7:47 / km) +100m 7:00 / km

Toms Cairn with T. Cloud coming and going.

Tuesday Aug 22, 2017 #

Orienteering 1:25:19 [3] 11.6 km (7:21 / km) +306m 6:30 / km
shoes: Mudclaw 300 b/r

Overthe hill to Home Farm then through past Achnafoy and onto Balfour map. Main track up to the 6 Day Blue start then S-1-2-3-4-5-6-10-9-8. Did them a lot better this time around not suprisingly. Lots of kudos to 3000 competitors and officials...just one piece of shoe tape and 1 x tag for control 145....and a whole heap of elephant tracks. Back from 8 via Home Farm again but then the road route.

Monday Aug 21, 2017 #

Note
(rest day)

More 6 Day kit jiggery pokery in Ballater with AT. Looking better now than beforehand...but not done yet.

Sunday Aug 20, 2017 #

Mtn Bike 1:15:00 [3] 19.5 km (3:51 / km) +410m 3:29 / km

Road or Mtn bike? Mtn won.
Ground out the climb up Corybeg. Always tough this one. Instead of heading straight down the back headed right, round the back of Lamahip and took the long diagonal track into the Forest of Birse. Then back down the road as far as the main gate to Finzean House, up past the stables and over the top and down home. Very enjoyable.

Warm up/down 10:00 [3]

Streets of Rhynie from the gala field.

Trail / Terrain Run race (Tap o'Noth race) 46:30 [5] 7.9 km (5:53 / km) +400m 4:42 / km

Always missed this one in the past so a new one for me. Never even been up the hill before.
Tight right calf for last couple of days but seems more like a bite/sting from when we are at Feardar. Anyway decided to take it easy for that reason. In practice that probably went out the window after 200m. Thought RuthM would be a good pace guide but she was about 50m behind me all the way up. Pretty muddy across the flat saddle with no decent places to run. Probably about 12th to the top, and caught two soon after started on the descent. Aberdeen AAC girl in front all the way down but couldn't catch her. Ended up 9th or 10th anyway and almost certainly1st v60 out of not very many...might even have been the only one. Nice course, fun race.

Friday Aug 18, 2017 #

Trail 37:00 [3] 6.5 km (5:42 / km) +60m 5:26 / km

Rough old day.
Out the path, round via the Ballogie House drive; track through the fields past Bogieshiel Lodge drive end and back down the road. Didnt fancy wet vegetation today.

Thursday Aug 17, 2017 #

Trail 27:00 [3]
shoes: Mudclaw 300 b/r

Post dismantling of three stiles with AT. Feardar at its finest in the sunshine. Land Rover track then largely elephant tracks via a couple of control sites. Difficult to believe 3000 running here two weeks ago. Glorious.

Tuesday Aug 15, 2017 #

Trail 1:07:05 [3] 10.9 km (6:09 / km) +305m 5:24 / km
shoes: Inov8 RaceUltra

Lamahip with S and M (& Bruno) instead of the DR session. Lovely evening for a Ballogie Runners run but its starting to unduly hurt running with these relative youngsters up hills. Downhills is much better but by that time I'm somewhat wasted. Good chat though....including the berating of our lovely local broadband provider (...or not really provider today).

Road Running 1:09:13 [3] 13.9 km (4:59 / km) +101m 4:48 / km

Tour of London Bridges.
Beautiful morning for criss crossing the Thames.
Webber Street down Lambeth Road then:
Lambeth; Westminster; Golden Jubilee; Waterloo; Blackfriars; Millennium; Southwark; London and Tower bridges. Then back over London bridge and along to Blackfriars, then back via Blackfriars Road.
Nice out.

Trail / Road Run 45:47 [3] 9.04 km (5:04 / km) +114m 4:46 / km

Up and down Primrose Hill, along Regents Canal for a bit, then Regents Park followed by up and down the hill again. Bit different from the normal. Avoiding the selfies. Lovely day. Good tempo.

Note

Another fun evening in Stratford.

Thursday Aug 10, 2017 #

Note

Primrose Hill wanderings with T and C before Tartan Thursday at the Olympic Stadium.

Wednesday Aug 9, 2017 #

Trail 25:00 [3] 4.3 km (5:49 / km)

Home Farm loop
Went a bit quicker today. Starting to feel a bit better.

Tuesday Aug 8, 2017 #

Orienteering 34:00 [3] 5.3 km (6:25 / km)
shoes: Mudclaw 300 b/r

Wombled around the local loop in the drizzle feeling very unspritely.
How anyone could want to do a Sunday hill race or Monday interval session after the 6 Day I've no idea ;-). Bottom of my list..but then again maybe that's the secret.

Monday Aug 7, 2017 #

Note

Another day off.
Wander in Glen Tanar with T and C. Field looks a mite different to last Sunday. Its got some funny stripes on it...and some sheep.

Sunday Aug 6, 2017 #

Note

Even more kit shifting and drying with AT, J&EM and T&C.
Stuffed. Completely.

Note

Glad its over but its been worth it. Great to have so many folk really enjoying Deeside and it Orienteering again. Very satisfied..albeit my own O was very hit and miss.

Every day a very long and physical day helping out the Equipment Team as well as doing the DC bit so typically 7.30 until 5 or 6 or 7 . Maybe need to reassess their resourcing too I think. However so many folk contributed in some way, as they always do for the 6D. Lots of lessons learned for next time too...need to document those in the next week.

Orienteering (RD17 - Day 6) 30:00 [3]

Turned ankle before 1. Stung by a bee also before 1. Trotted around a few controls behind DP, not doing much concentrating or navigating for that matter, before admitting that it was a race too far. Walked / wandered back. Sorry not to complete all 6 but doesn't seem to matter.

Friday Aug 4, 2017 #

Orienteering (RD17 - Feardar) 49:00 [3]

Getting weary but pretty clean today. Went left on the route choice leg - very slow through the bracken and it probably cost. Still seem to struggle on uphill legs too.

Thursday Aug 3, 2017 #

Orienteering (RD17 - Creag Choinnich) 55:00 [3]

Enjoyed it. Key leg was 1-2 though. Unfortunately GPS trace shows I passed the wrong side of the veg covered south side of the boulder without seeing it ..certainly within ten metres. Absolutely nothing else to go on in the vicinity. Game over. Fastest on the route choice leg to 6 going left and staying low. Lost another minute maybe at 8 but nothing else.

Wednesday Aug 2, 2017 #

Note

Another field, another fence, another coffee and cake in The Bothy. More sunburn potential too.

Tuesday Aug 1, 2017 #

Orienteering 1:02:00 [3]

Hmm..best show discretion on this. Suffice to say the course was not what I expected.

Note

GettIng a mite weary.
Target was to run on my timed starts the whole week without recourse to the punching starts that I have available. Failed on day 3 of that challenge. Blame the Deeside cows or their farmers. Quick trip to Braemar wasn't in the plan. Sorry M60s.
