Note

Made it to Manhattan by taxi from Newark. No subway, and Central Park closed just now but way better off up here on Upper West Side than down in Lower Manhattan which is supposedly like a war zone. Just remains to be seen how we get to the start ..assuming the race does happen. Meantime the best we can do is spend some money to help NY get back on its feet.

Stop press: marathon is officially on. Now need to get the mind in gear. Had kind of got used to the idea of it maybe not happening.

Tuesday Oct 30, 2012 #

Note

Think NY has more important things on its mind than trying to organise a marathon just now. We just need to watch and wait and see what happens.

Drove around the Catskills this morning - trees and cables down all over the shop but being cleared away. Still got power here anyway. Head into NY tomorrow hopefully.

Trail / Road Run 42:00 [3] 7.97 km (5:16 / km)
shoes: Nike Pegasus 27 (b/y)

Out along the Wallkill Valley Rail Trail from New Paltz and back the same way. Large lunch portion bouncing around in my stomach didn't help, Dry, or at least, not raining.

Note

Looks like the show is on the road on Sunday next. If that's true it will be mightily impressive.

Monday Oct 29, 2012 #

Note

Wild. Sandy says taper. dc didn't take any notice. I'm not daft.

Sunday Oct 28, 2012 #

Trail 45:00 [3]
shoes: Nike Pegasus 27 (b/y)

Running some trails near Cornwall in up state New York with dc. Leaves a glorious colour but too many covering the path so really hard to keep on it. Moved slightly inland so will hopefully miss worst of the storm.

Note

Glad we took our wind proofs.

Saturday Oct 27, 2012 #

Trail / Road Run 33:29 [3]
shoes: Nike Pegasus 27 (b/y)

Slipping about on Banchory roads and Glen O'Dee in the snow. Too early for this.

Note

Prep done. Off to NYC

S&C 15:00 [3]

Mainly stretching

Thursday Oct 25, 2012 #

Road Running 46:00 [3]
shoes: Saucony Progrid(Blue)

Steady on the roads to Woodbank and then back through Hazlehead. Feeling much better.

Intervals 30:00 [3]
shoes: Saucony Progrid(Blue)

5x4/2 at the back of Woodbank. Bit slippery with the leaves.

Wednesday Oct 24, 2012 #

Note
(rest day)

No niggles but not felt great for last couple of days so better safe than sorry

Monday Oct 22, 2012 #

Note
(rest day)

Slight left adductor niggle from yesterday.

Note

Spotted an alleyway I missed by looking at Routegadget from Saturday. Would have saved me maybe 150m..not nearly enough.

Warm up/down 15:00 [3]
shoes: Jalas Black

Pre and post SOL.

Orienteering (Clyde SOL) 1:15:00 [3]
shoes: Jalas Black

Ground it out. Found it very tough from the first minute and turned into just a trudge. Caught CS and then RS and then basically wasn't far away from them for 2/3 of the course. Can't say I enjoyed it, even though only two small misses. Just couldn't get going at all in the terrain, nothing in the legs.

Still, the hard work is done.

Warm up/down 10:00 [3]
shoes: Saucony Progrid(Blue)

Before Dunblane SOUL.

Orienteering (FVO SOUL Dunblane) 51:20 [3] 5.7 km (9:00 / km)
shoes: Saucony Progrid(Blue)

Bit concerned about the hills in my legs and the road shoes, having seen and talked to earlier starters. Had left trail shoes at home. Managed ok in the slippery stuff as it turned out.

Probably a bit lacking in speed and with DonP starting a short while after I half expected to see him steaming past well before he did. Really enjoyed it, particularly the long legs that really had you thinking. Didn't know Dunblane was so extensive.

No mistakes of note, although missed seeing an alleyway to 11 so stayed on slippery path. Happy enough although perhaps slightly disappointed DonP caught me as much as 6 mins at last control.

Friday Oct 12, 2012 #

Road Running 2:36:26 [3] 26.25 km (5:58 / km) +129m 5:49 / km
shoes: Saucony Progrid(Blue)

Thoroughly bad idea. Some days aren't made for running; some days I don't feel made for running. Some days those feelings coincide. Today was one of them.

Home from work on DW.
Amber weather warnings for Aberdeenshire but the forecast seemed to say it would be getting slightly better by 4pm and with an ESE wind it would almost be behind me. So went for it on the basis that its sometimes great to get a long run out of the way on a Friday.

Wet it was from start to finish. Up to my knees for 200m on the back road by Culter and deep puddles every few metres on the railway. Decided to bale near Drumoak and ring for a lift, but by the time I'd got my password right in my BB there was just time for the battery to expire, which it promptly did. There was absolutely no chance of me getting on a full bus in the dripping state I was in.

Warming up now.

Trail / Road Run 51:04 [3]

The endurance has come together very well. Not paid enough attention to the speed though.

Sunday Oct 7, 2012 #

Trail / Terrain Run 48:30 [3]
shoes: Nike Pegasus 27 (b/y)

Lovely day at MAROC Bogendreip local event. A rough and tough Blue terrain run was not what I needed so spent a very enjoyable time running through the nicer parts of the terrain turning the legs over. Did a few sets of strides along the river bank in the sunshine. Not very strenuous.

Saturday Oct 6, 2012 #

Walk 45:00 [3]

Morven with T. Sunny but bitter wind up top...a few snow flurries. No after effects from yesterday. Out for 2.5 hrs.

Friday Oct 5, 2012 #

Road Running 2:55:20 [3] 33.94 km (5:10 / km) +412m 4:52 / km
shoes: Saucony Progrid(Blue)

Through Glen O'Dee to Newton of Leys, Brathens Road out to Glassel, and up the hill to Craiglash Quarry. Welcome pre-stashed water at top end of Sluie, continuing on round the road via Tillydrine. Along the DW to Potarch and then the long haul up to Shooting Greens. More water there before heading down to the Feughside Inn and along the road to Strachan. Back road to the Bridge of Feugh, into Banchory, across the park and up Raemoir Road. Somewhat weary.

Note

Run was meant to be about 15 minutes slower, but I'm not always very disciplined when it comes to a pre-planned pace.

Wednesday Oct 3, 2012 #

Trail / Road Run 49:20 [3] 9.2 km (5:22 / km)
shoes: Saucony Progrid(Blue)
