Orienteering (OOCUP Day 5) 48:07 [3] 4.1 km (11:44 / km)
shoes: VJ Twister (2)

Same terrain as day 4. Best run of the week. The technique seems to be use any tracks in the vicinty no matter how far out of the way they take you - they'll be quicker. Avoid the broken rock terrain as you can't run on it. Anyway it worked - was nip and tuck through 10 with bd then missed at 11. 6th on the day and 10/45 overall. Hmmm..not very good. Great experience again though - there's nothing like a bit of TD 6 karst. Ankle still swollen but should be fine for 6 day.

Good run for dc in 21e...and watch out for bd at 6 day folks.

Orienteering (OOCUP Day 4) 1:03:29 [3] 3.9 km (16:17 / km)
shoes: VJ Twister (2)

Difrferent terrain again - low visibility and larger karst features - not any easier - a lot of broken rock and very slow terrain in many parts. Blew number 1 again! Ankle still swollen but tolerable although not the greatest terrain for dodgey bodies.

Orienteering (OOCUP Day 3) 45:55 [3]
shoes: VJ Twister (2)

Much more straightforward terrain with limited rock but lots of steep hills and valleys, just across the forest road from day 1 and 2. Much faster as a consequence.

Ankle had swollen considerably overnight and might have been sensible not to run, but went for my map and then walk/jogged round - in actual fact ran the first three and then missed at four and jogged the rest. Ankle was tolerable - don't know if I did it any good though.

Orienteering (OOCUP Day 2) 1:16:15 [3] 4.0 km (19:04 / km)
shoes: VJ Twister (2)

Another tough hot day in the same terrain as the previous. Missed badly at one and never really got going. Crocked my ankle heading for 11 but seemed to run it off after a minute or so. Not yet worked out the way to run this stuff - some long times today. Amazing to think it was only 4 km.

Event: OO.cup/09

Orienteering (OOCUP Day 1) 58:39 [3] 3.6 mi (16:17 / mi)
shoes: VJ Twister (2)

Blew it at 13! Well in control (apart from overshooting 2 and ending up at 3) through 12 and then missed depression slightly and couldnt understand it, kept coming back to same place. Finally found it in next depression over. Lost 12 minutes ish.. Pleased with the way I was orienteering generally in the very tough terrain. Slightly frustrated though as certainly could have run sub 45..won in 38 I think. Good to see so many Brits..mostly having the same sort of problems.

Very warm again.

More walking or more like wandering today in a variety of places. Hot...>30.

Trail / Road Run 1:01:00 [3]
shoes: Asics Cumulus

Was meant to be a steady 40 at Hazlehead and it was but just as I got back to work the fire alarm went off. Not wishing to hang about outside dripping with sweat and raindrops another 20 minutes stint resulted. Sllightly sore achilles - need to watch that.

Thursday Jul 16, 2009 #

From Aboyne, Bridge of Ess, climb up round back of Bawdy Meg, drop down into Glentanar, cross the upper bridge and back to sawmill, then cut over to Dinnet, then old railway back to Aboyne. Nice loop with Andy T. Fair bit of effort on the initial steep uphills.

Terrain 2:15:00 [3]
ahr:113 max:148 shoes: VJ Twister (2)

Running interspersed with bits of walking at Coull in preparation for SOL in October. Had to go into some of the less nice bits at some time, so decided to get it over and done with..don't need go into the grot again. Need to plan on avoiding worst of the bracken too.

Worth going though as I discovered there were a couple of new large ponds in the middle of the area..think they are permanent - bit of work for you Jon!

Orienteering (Gramp Glen Dye) 48:00 [3] *** 4.9 km (9:48 / km)
spiked:12/15c shoes: VJ Twister (2)

Lost time at 4 on a ditch where I've lost time before..should have known better! Too far right at 8 and lost another 30s then inexplicably stopped way too short at 10. Should have been at least 5 mins quicker. Nice course though on not a bad evening.

Gym 15:00 [3]
shoes: Reebok Premier RoadPlus

Was going to be a rest day and I suppose it was..kind of, except that I had a 3 yearly company medical which included 15 mins on the treadmill and cardiogram.
Resting heart rate: 49
Speed and gradient of treadmill increasing every 3 minutes up to 15 mins. Heart rate at 15 mins: 171
Normal I'm told...which is good.
