Mtn Bike 55:00 [3]

More cross training. First outing on the bike in 2008. Kept off the slushy tracks and so it was just very wet roads - Sognsvann then Kringsja and up to Maridalen church and back again.

Saturday Mar 29, 2008 #

Terrain 1:00:00 [3] 7.5 km (8:00 / km) +253m 6:51 / km
shoes: Icebugs

From Fossum hut. Slipping and sliding through the slush round Østernvann. Trying to follow Calums footprints in the snow as he disappeared into the soggy white yonder.

Friday Mar 28, 2008 #

XC Skiing 1:00:00 [3]

Skis were duly dusted off and T and I took it easy from Frognereseter to Ullevaalseter and back. Nice and fast glide but getting warmer and the snow was starting to ball up once out of the tracks. Not many folk about, most I think have put the skis away for the summer now.

Thursday Mar 27, 2008 #

Note
(rest day)

Schipol and home at 11:30pm I expect so no other effort possible today.

Gym 35:00 [3]
shoes: Reebok Premier RoadPlus

Cross-trainer and some static bike in the hotel gym in Voorburg.

Vestfold 2-dagers er utsatt en uke! i.e. after not having any snow for most of the winter Vestfold now has too much and it won't be gone by the weekend so the Norwegian season opener is put back a week. Maybe have to dust off the skis again then.

Tuesday Mar 25, 2008 #

Note
(rest day)

Too tired.
Should have gone to Nydalens first 7-70 session up the road, or gone skiing out the back door but will make do with 30 mins of walking to and from buses. Early flight tomorrow is another excuse.

Road Running 20:00 [3]
shoes: Asics Gel Trail Sensor

With Calum. Sognsvannsveien, Sognsveien, Nordbergsveien and home. -2 and snow but windchill made it very much colder. Just a leg turner but really hard work.

Running 10:00 [3]
shoes: VJ Twister

Warm up / warm down

Orienteering race 59:37 [4] *** 8.2 km (7:16 / km) +355m 5:59 / km
spiked:14/15c shoes: VJ Twister

JK Day 3, Ashdown Forest. 8/~140, 8th overall. JT 1st.

V cold, a little snow. Ran really well until 8, and then mistook the various OOB areas, ended up too far west. 90 secs lost. Lost another minute on route choice at 10 and then it was pretty much a cross country slog to 15. Lost time on that to others - just not able to run fast enough. Got caught up 2 mins by John Embrey soon after 10, difficult keeping up with him. Maybe I need to keep off the cakes...:-)

Late journey back to Oslo, home at 2am, temperatures -8 to -12 on way from airport, and snow's returned at home.

Running 20:00 [2]
shoes: VJ Twister

Warm up / warm down

Orienteering race 56:40 [5] *** 7.7 km (7:22 / km) +285m 6:13 / km
spiked:20/22c shoes: VJ Twister

JK day 2, Leith Hill. 11th/142. JT 1st, DP 4th, BD 12th.

Lost maybe 60 secs in thickets at 7 and then bad error at 10, losing 3 mins plus. Came out of 9 at slightly wrong angle, ended up in wrong block of paths. Very confused. Alastair Doyle caught me back up and we ran hard nip and tuck for rest of course. Should have gone straight instead of round at 15 -lost another minute. Easily 5 mins lost and 5 mins down..thats the way it goes.

Event: JK 2008

Running 15:00 [3]
shoes: Reebok Premier RoadPlus

Warm up / down

Orienteering race 17:33 [5] * 2.3 km (7:38 / km) +50m 6:53 / km
spiked:16/17c shoes: Reebok Premier RoadPlus

JK Day 1 sprint.
Nicely planned race around Surrey Uni. Ran well except for coming out of 2 the wrong way and maybe losing 30 secs by ending up running around whole series of buildings that I shouldn't have.

Ended up 1m 19s behind Colin Dickson in 11th/105. Would have struggled with his time in any circumstance.

K won W16. D dq'd. T 18th.

Thursday Mar 20, 2008 #

Note
(rest day)

Travel to Gatwick and Herons Ghyll.

Wednesday Mar 19, 2008 #

Walk 1:00:00 [1]

Wandering again...up to Piazza Maggiore and then the Colosseum and back. Another 4 hours I guess.

Road Running 35:00 [3]
shoes: Reebok Premier RoadPlus

9 bridges of the Tiber. From Ponte Mazzini south to Ponte Sublicio, north on the other side up to Ponte S. Angelo, crossed over again and back. Rome's busy everywhere except beside the river where you could fit a two lane motorway along the embankment. Hardly anyone there except for the few down and outs camping under the bridges. Nice sunset over St Peters.

Tuesday Mar 18, 2008 #

Walk 2:00:00 [1]

Another 5 hours. Vatican City this time, climbed about 500 steps up to summit of dome of St Peters. Cracking views. No running today me thinks.

Monday Mar 17, 2008 #

Walk 2:00:00 [1]

Another 6 hrs of walking round the city. Piazza Navona, Pantheon, Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps, Piazza del Poppolo etc. All knackered.

Road Running 35:00 [3]
shoes: Reebok Premier RoadPlus

WIth K we risked it running round the city! Crossed the Tiber, ran up a few dead ends then found a way up the Gianicolo to Piazza Garribaldi, admired floodlit St Peters and view over city at dusk, then another dead end on way to botanics. Finished by a short stretch along beside Tiber. Fun..needed to be careful on cobbles though!

Sunday Mar 16, 2008 #

Walk 2:00:00 [1]

4 hours of walking round Rome. City covered in gold asics blankets as marathon was on..high class won in 2.09, 2.22. Managed Piazza Venezia, Colosseum, Circo Massimo and Isola Tiberia. Great alleways fro a street race but lethal with the smartcars and vespas.

Saturday Mar 15, 2008 #

Trail / Terrain Run 1:06:00 [3] 11.0 km (6:00 / km) +422m 5:02 / km
shoes: Asics Gel Trail Sensor

Should have worn Icebugs..major error of judgement. Ran from house up round back of Vetakollen up to Borgenkulpen and to Holmenkollen (45 mins). With Bjorndalen sick, watched Svendsen blow a 25s chasing start lead and Tcherezov win in the World Cup biathlon, with Svendsen ending in 3rd. Great spectacle in the sunshine even though they all seemed to be skating on slush.

Ran back down via Miidstue and Riis, avoiding the remaining snow and icy tracks.

Trail / Road Run 26:00 [3]
shoes: Asics Gel Trail Sensor

To work. Was going to take different route through Vigeland Park but was short on time. Roll on the start of the O season in Guildford in a weeks time.

Trail / Road Run 31:10 [3]
shoes: Asics Gel Trail Sensor

Good tempo run back home feeling really good.Varied the normal route by going to Thune and up by the burn to Vigelands Park, across the main bridge and to the top by the monolith, then along the wooded ridge to the north and exited park and continued on normal route. still light (ish) at 6.45.

Thursday Mar 13, 2008 #

Trail / Road Run 27:00 [3]
shoes: Asics Gel Trail Sensor

To Skøyen (work) with "Kimm heavy" rucsac. +4. No ice left, bikeable from now on hopefully.

Trail / Road Run 26:57 [3]
shoes: Asics Gel Trail Sensor

Back home with lighter rucsac (minus laptop). Bit sluggish. Nice bright late afternoon in Oslo.

Wednesday Mar 12, 2008 #

Road Running 20:00 [3]
shoes: Reebok Premier RoadPlus

Lots more escalators & walkways on way home.

Nipped out late on down Sognsvannsveien, up Sognsveien and Nordbergveien to electical sub-station and home. Hey, no gloves and no icebugs!

Tuesday Mar 11, 2008 #

Note

Escalators and the miles of passenger walkways at Schipol and Gardermoen for a couple of days. Got to be worth something. Why aren't there gyms at airports?! SAS seat spacing can't be good for you either, I'm sure it's got smaller.

Monday Mar 10, 2008 #

Trail / Road Run 30:00 [3]
shoes: Icebugs

Round Gaustad woods and the grounds of Gaustad and Riks Hospitals.

Sunday Mar 9, 2008 #

Orienteering 43:00 [3]
shoes: VJ Twister

6 mins warm up then ran the course from last years Oslo City Cup Race no 5 at Sognsvann. Never seem to get to know the area even though it's so local. Awful to no 1, couldn't make out the paths at all but after that pretty sound technically although hard work in places where the snow was still reasonably deep.

Orienteering 22:50 [3]
shoes: Icebugs

Kirsty planned a sprint course on the Riks Hospitalet map so I could start and finish at our front door. Good fun, pretty clean technically apart from in the vague area near no 2. One or two broken fences required a bit of care to avoid the head high wire. Slipping and sliding around a bit - mud this time...and a bit of ice. World Cup Ski Jumping going on up the road at Holmenkollen..the last competition on the old hill before it's rebuilt.

Saturday Mar 8, 2008 #

Note
(rest day)

Jetlag catching up on me..walked around Sandvika instead!

Friday Mar 7, 2008 #

Trail / Terrain Run 34:00 [3]
shoes: Icebugs

Back to the snow and ice. Went up round above Bantjern and back. Hope it helps with the jetlag as much as anything else. Skittering around on the ice.

Road Running 52:00 [3]
shoes: Reebok Premier RoadPlus

10 mins warm up/down.
Pretty good tempo up and down the Iron Horse Trail in San Ramon with Aussie Dave and American Phil for 42 minutes. Good to get out even if it was 6 in the morning. Temperature about 1-2 degrees, not what I was prepared for!

Pleased to have got something in every day this week. Long flight back later today.

Gym 55:00 [3]

10 minutes warm up/down
45 minutes on cross trainer.

Gym 45:00 [3]
shoes: Reebok Premier RoadPlus

Resorted to the gym again....dark and desperately boring outside...and this week the gym is more attractive.
Treadmill....
15 mins warm up/down.
30 mins pretty hard effort, varied speed, incline.

Monday Mar 3, 2008 #

Gym 45:00 [3]

Mtn Bike 1:00:00 [3]

Leisurely 3 hrs of mountain biking round San Fran with Doug S. Fishermans Wharf, Golden Gate Bridge, Lincoln Park and on down 49 mile scenic drive, and back through the city via the various undulations including down Lombard Street.

Saturday Mar 1, 2008 #

Note

Got up at 04.00 for flight to San Francisco..not quite what I wanted after yesterday.

Gym 40:00 [3]
shoes: Reebok Premier RoadPlus

30 mins on the treadmill in the hotel gym in San Ramon after travelling all day. 10 mins on static bike. Felt a bit weird doing it at what should have been 4 in the morning UK time.
