On the way to the start at Ballogie

Orienteering race 1:09:44 [3] 6.7 km (10:24 / km)
shoes: Jalas Black

Very tired from the beginning. Clean except for inexcusably being in the wrong block at 4 and losing 5 minutes. Rest of the time just toiling round. Enjoyed it though. Glad bracken didn't have another weeks growth in it.

Gym 52:00 [3]
shoes: Nike Pegasus 27

More of the same.

Satisfied to manage 6 days out of 6 doing something early morning which I always find difficult. Lack of satisfactory portion management in this US state probably rather negates the exercise benefits though. Back to the real world tomorrow.

Note: US Seniors Games going on - a lot of very aged fit inspirational folk wandering about..

Orienteering (LAMM Day 2) 5:05:13 [3]
shoes: Jalas Black

LAMM Day 2: Woke up to glorious weather again.

Aches, pains and one of c’s old injuries returning meant we weren’t sure how to play day 2 so set off slow and steady and kept it that way throughout. So glad we did. Top day again.

Iffy route choice between 1 and 2 but apart from that all pretty good. More fabulous views, this time of An Teallach ahead. Came up across a contented fawn curled up asleep high on Meall Dubh. Confused by the newly christened SI bird (golden plover) which sounds just like someone punching an SI unit.

Superb weekend and whilst we didn’t break any speed records, unlike a very impressive TG and DG, all objectives achieved with no real damage. Good company throughout and at the midway camp and at the finish.

Two down one to go.

Orienteering (LAMM Day 1) 5:53:03 [3]
shoes: Jalas Black

LAMM Day 1 with c.
Started from west end of Loch Glascarnoch SE of Ullapool. Fabulous weather. Views so good.

Early start so soon head of the pack and a lot of fun with no-one in front until TG and DG caught us. Stayed with them for a short time and then left them to it!. Lots of deer about and a baby adder.

First half ok apart from being too high at one and losing a bit on a couple of other route choices but lack of time in the hills and long runs took its toll in the second half and we died somewhat.

The toil up Seana Bhraigh was painful and the remaining 5 km down to the midway camp nearly as bad. Started raining as soon as we got there and continued from 1300 through all evening. Impeccable timing.

Timekeeping at Scolty race. Would have quite fancied running but about time I supported the other local running club. I would have suffered after the previous day anyway.
