Running 20:20 [3]
shoes: Asics Cumulus

After the trials and tribulations of various airports nice to get out, albeit in the rainy darkness. Short and easy run through Gaustad Hospital and then all the way up Sognsveien, across to the sub-station and back home with a minor loop near Riks Hospitalet at the end.

Note
(rest day)

No time, way too much bouncing around Europe going on. Doing my head in. Roll on November. Meantime grin and bear it...back to Oslo tomorrow.

Event: SOL 5

Running 10:00 [3]
shoes: VJ Twister

Warm up, warm down

Orienteering race 52:41 [3] 6.8 km (7:45 / km) +230m 6:38 / km
spiked:16/19c shoes: VJ Twister

Wonderful Anagach and generally pretty clean. Too high at 12 (30s) and lost up to 2 mins (not sure really how much) amongst the bushes at 14. The latter was hidden away in the juniper. Thanks Ewan McA for leading me into it eventually.16 I was slow stumbling round the marsh until reaching the track.

Not quite sure exactly what other people ran other than Dixie in 49, would have struggled to match that, and O-Mapper 50ish. Happy enough - running pretty strongly and technically pretty good.

Later:
Cherry 47
D 49.10
OM 50.06
DP 53.37
Having seen the splilts clearly lost it as above, on 12,14 and 16 to varying degrees. Some scope for improvement!

Trail / Terrain Run 38:00 [3]
shoes: Asics Gel Trail Sensor

Varied run with K in Sluie from Craiglash quarry. Up the main track then a shortish fartlek session in the undulations of the south eastern part. Great area for that if you can avoid the worst of the bracken at this time of year. Jogged back up the main track but too busy chatting, took the wrong branch and finished up down by the farm with a gentle wander back up the road to the quarry as K had tight calves. Got rained on.

Mtn Bike 17:34 [3] 4.3 km (4:05 / km)
ahr:146 max:187 shoes: Asics Cumulus

Nice day again. Biked hard up to the dam at the south end of Aklungen, left the bike there and wandered up to Lynn Hytta with the camera.

Running 10:00 [3] 1.7 km (5:53 / km)
shoes: Asics Cumulus

Easy run with rucsac back to the bike via the west side of Aklungen. Very muddy.

Mtn Bike 12:17 [3] 4.3 km (2:51 / km)
shoes: Asics Cumulus

Back home on west side of Sognsvann.

Saturday Sep 20, 2008 #

Trail / Terrain Run 1:44:32 [3] 17.01 km (6:09 / km)
ahr:142 max:163 shoes: Asics Cumulus

From the house skirted Vetakollen, then up to Frognerseter and on to Ullevalseter. Then took the small paths to the Lyn hytta beside Store Aklungen, on to Aklungen (very low level of water) and south to the dam, and back home via the west side of Sognsvann.

Autumn has certainly brought out the colours. Stopped to admire the scenery at the Lyn Hytta by the sign that marks the crossing of the old null meridian and 60 degrees north. It says "Følger vi denne breddesirkelen vestover passeres Shetland og sydspissen av Grønland. Østover stryker den over St Petersburg og inn in Sibir." Not today thanks.

The bridge below the hytta has been broken and an old row boat tied up in the middle so fortunately you can still cross that part of Store Aklungen.

Nice weather for a run I've wanted to do for a while..time was running out.

Well done Scotlands Juniors! Same again tomorrow.

Trail / Terrain Run 40:00 [3]
shoes: Asics Cumulus

Lunchtime run with Dag Helland-Hansen from work. New route along through the woods along the east side of Bygdøy beside the fjord, up as far as the beach at Huk then back along the west side. Nice change and good to have Dag's company. Quicker than I would have done on my own too.

Given that according to "Visit Norway" Bygdøy is one of the top ten running places in Norway it's not bad to have it across the E18 from work....and another is Sognsvann, which is out the back door of the house.

To Bantjern then Vetakollen, over the top and back down to Bantjern again. Pretty muddy.

Running 30:00 [3]
shoes: Asics Gel Trail Sensor

Nice easy run with K from Crathes West Lodge. Went south of the main road between the rejuvenating Deeside railway and the river and then up to The Milton and then back through Crathes itself. Took a quick look at "no 3" from yesterday..need to do that properly sometime..definitely not convinced!

Orienteering race (Crathes District) 1:07:52 [4] *** 8.3 km (8:11 / km) +200m 7:18 / km
spiked:21/24c shoes: VJ Twister

Back to the old stomping grounds for a GRAMP event. Very wet.

Pretty sound except for maybe 1 mins at 2 and nearly 4 mins at 3, even though it was all of 100m! Never have been convinced about that area of the map - now I'm certain of it! TG caught me and led me into 3 eventually, by which time I'd already lost 5 mins on the course. Then he ran away from me with no bother and I ended up 8 mins down. Still, he's a youngster.

Going to have to get used to the size of boulders again. Several controls on what Norwegians would class as pebbles! Stood beside a couple and couldn't see them for looking.

Still really enjoyed RO's planning - a few legs I'd never run before, which says something for Crathes. Also felt to be really capable of attacking the course which was good and certainly felt to be running well.

Good to beat Ks mins per k, just....5.9 in 51 on the blue.

Orienteering race 1:00:00 [3]
shoes: VJ Twister

Bedrifts Orienteering near Asker. Green map and not very motivated. Missed badly in the green at 5 by just not concentrating at all.

Mtn Bike 43:00 [3]

Was going to make it a rest day as I wasn't organised enough to cycle to work after stopping up late to watch Murray and because I had to get to work early for lots of reasons.

Had time to kill though whilst waiting for messrs DC, DT & MN to produce the promised curry so decided on a quick blast on the bike up to Ullevallseter. Bit damp and they'd re-gravelled a lot of the forest tracks to get rid of the potholes that had developed over the season, so the friction was somewhat increased. Still good though...hopefully the curry and ?christmas pudding? will be too, then we can watch Murray again.

Orienteering race (Glåmdalsløpet) 1:27:00 [3] 7.3 km (11:55 / km)
shoes: VJ Twister

Glåmdalsløpet, Finnskogen.

137 km away up to close to the Swedish border. Lovely lichen covered terrain in parts. First starter on H45-55 as late entrant, 8 or so others starting successive minutes after. Kept ahead of all through 4 then blew 5 big time - couldn't make the veg fit. Lost 10 minutes...the same as dc did on the same control on H21. Strange..it was certainly distinct enough when I finally found it. Motivation and concentration disappeared somewhat and ended up going via 8 to 7. Fun nevertheless and some parts really stunning terrain...but took way too long.

Running 10:00 [3]

Warm up for KM sprint at Veritasskogen whilst spectating at EUOCs attempt on Oslo & Akershus sprint champs. They lost.

Orienteering race (KM sprint champs) 18:06 [4] 2.4 km (7:32 / km)
shoes: VJ Twister

Real mix of company campus and contoured low visibility woodland. Missed 1 and 10 by 30s each. 2m 20s down in about 7th. Not very great..severely distracted by rogue photographers down by the fjord side :-).

Running 25:00 [3]

Easy run up to Bantjern and back.
