Orienteering race (Crathes - DNC Score) 29:18 [4]
shoes: ORoc 340

Last race & curry.
30 minutes score.
Expected a low key end to a great series but ended up really enjoying it on another nice night.
Went round in an anticlockwise direction from the start. Ran with K for a couple of controls after catching her, then Josh for another couple - certainly couldnt keep up for any more. Surprised to find myself running out of controls late on but timed it all pretty well. No real mistakes and felt to be running well but obliterated by Sashmans 23:19.

Trail / Road Run 36:50 [3]
shoes: Nike Pegasus 27 (b/y)

Fabulous day. Tracks at Hazlehead starting to dry up too.
Felt good and went at a quick tempo round the usual loop. Pleased with that.

S&C 13:00 [3]
shoes: Nike Pegasus 27 (b/y)

Not time for much but better than nothing. Main gym to myself.

Orienteering 40:00 [3]
shoes: ORoc 340

Maroc junior training at Bogendreip.
Shadowing and control collecting.

Saturday Feb 23, 2013 #

Trail 1:33:00 [3]
shoes: ORoc 340

Exploring Arntilly Wood.
Corsedardar War Memorial, small loop above Finzean House, then up to the Caper enclosure, down to Murley then round north side of Arntilly and back. Some smashing bits of woodland up there, including some nice detail. Still some icy snow around. Slow and steady. Still somewhat tired after the early part of the week.

Note

Another day off. Won't do harm. Too busy going to Stoney and Insch. Letting the knee and face damage from Wednesday heal. The mental scars too. :-)

Thursday Feb 21, 2013 #

Note
(rest day)

R&R needed. Stretching required. A day away from the best Deeside has to offer.

Orienteering race (DNC Inchmarnoch) 1:08:00 [3]
shoes: ORoc 340

Ouch. Seriously embarrassingly bad. Not alone though. Lost the plot somewhere in the middle, smashed my knee off something, scratched my face, got cramp in right calf and all in all had a fabulous time. Actually it was fun but found Inchmarnoch a real challenge at night. Need to have another go sometime!

Can't complain ..Birsemore Sunday, Glen Dye Monday and Inchmarnoch Wednesday. What's tomorrow?

Tuesday Feb 19, 2013 #

Trail / Road Run 50:06 [3]
shoes: Saucony Progrid(Blue)

5x Corsee Hill with K. She wiped me out...I was tired...my excuse and I'm sticking too it. Half in the light.

Slight soreness. Think from right glute rather than hamstring.

Monday Feb 18, 2013 #

Note

Hamstring niggling. Think Thursdays stretching is to blame. Need to be careful.

Orienteering (DNC Glen Dye) 58:00 [3]
shoes: ORoc 340

Rearranged race from a bad weather day.
Through all the best bits of Glen Dye although forestry workings have generated a heap of nasty muddy rutted tracks.
Poor choice of round the path to 1; safe through 4 but miss at 5; ok 6-9 then set off towards 11 but corrected it reasonably quickly. 10-12 fine and caught GL. Misread the streams at 16 so an extra crossing needed. 21 was the worst miss of the night, a little confused by the forest workings. Enjoyed the race with GL from 12 on.

Hamstring ok once warmed up.

Sunday Feb 17, 2013 #

Warm up/down 10:00 [3]
shoes: ORoc 340

Pre CSC. Barely 10 mins I think.

Orienteering race (CSC Birsemore) 55:36 [3] 5.7 km (9:45 / km)
shoes: ORoc 340

No idea how this would go and was reasonably satisfied with my orienteering although to be truthful it was mainly pretty straightforward. No mistakes to speak of, although banana at 9 going slightly low, then slightly hesitant at 12. Minor stoppage to give assistance to EM between 3 and 4. All of 10 seconds. Thought i was slow on the hills but will wait to see the splits for the evidence. Shame we didn't use the main technical stuff on the hill. Happy enough. Great weather day.

Trail 1:03:00 [3]
shoes: Nike Pegasus 27 (b/y)

Muddy muddy. Glen O'Dee. But it was light. Light until 5.35. Result. Heavy lunch so didn't feel fluent. Was intending a quicker session with K but she was under the weather so on my tod.

Thursday Feb 14, 2013 #

Note

OK I had a stressful work day yesterday but it still really baffles me why people don't pick up the phone to the organiser before complaining on public forums. Most things can be talked through and a solution found.

S&C 41:00 [3]
shoes: Reebok Premier RoadPlus

Usual stuff plus probably more stretching than for a while as have neglected it a little.

Trail 42:00 [3]
shoes: ORoc 340

Glen O'Dee. Snow. DNC off. Need a run desperately. Try out the new shoes. Brave the weather. Head torch, tempo, good fun once warmed up.

Note

Amazing! I just cannot believe what I read sometimes. Spent this evenings run ranting about complainers - "child friendly events". This is Deeside, February. Snow. Winter. Cold. You know. Level C event. From people who should know better too.

Jethro, DonP, Dixie, Elle, Marsela...did we carp on so much about child unfriendly events 15 years ago? I somehow think we just got on with it.

Rant over. 40 years in this sport and it still surprises me how much people complain. Still it will be a good event on Sunday and in February, snow or no snow.

As no LAMM this year, Highlander it is. Deed is done.

Trail 18:50 [3] 4.0 km (4:43 / km)
shoes: Icebugs

Lap of Stokkelandsvatnet again with c this time, from his apartment. In the dark or would have been it if hadn't been lit all the way round.

Wandered around on the iced up lake too.

Saturday Feb 9, 2013 #

Walk 1:00:00 [3]

Snow and sun. Great stomp with T and c from Preikostolen Fjellstue to Preikostolen. Minimal number of folk heading that way in perfect winter conditions. Deep snow made the going tough but at least a few folk had been before. Know we've been out. Top day - views magnificent. Out for 4 hrs.

Friday Feb 8, 2013 #

Walk 10:00 [3]

Round Stokkelandsvatnet with T on an amazing weather day. Out for 40.

Walk 30:00 [3]

Up Vassfjellet from Vatne with T. Nice snow if icy on the path in places. Cracking views all around. Very sociable off duty Norwegian policeman on the top. Came down the Ulvanutane path. Out for 90 ish.

Trail 19:02 [3]
shoes: Icebugs

Tempo round Stokkelandsvatnet late on. Icy. Folk playing ice hockey out on the lake.

Warm up/down 10:00 [3]
shoes: Jalas Black

Pre-and post DNC. Not enough but in a hurry tonight.

Orienteering race (DNC - Coull) 52:19 [3]
shoes: Jalas Black

First out on another great DNC night. A smattering of snow and not another soul around all the way. A few small misses, at 2 particularly and a bigger one at 12 when I finally saw folk crossing to 1. Not a great choice of route for the long leg to 9 but it was safe enough anyway. Not travelling very fast.

Tuesday Feb 5, 2013 #

Warm up/down 28:00 [3]
shoes: Nike Pegasus 27 (b/y)

On the streets pre and post hill reps.

Hills 22:00 [3]
shoes: Nike Pegasus 27 (b/y)

5 x Corsee Hill loop with K. Kept up. That's probably a positive but it felt tough...I suppose it should really.

Note

Was going to go to the DR session but we wimped out cos of the weather. Didn't fancy the journey overhead to run in the wind and rain.

Orienteering race (Gramp Scolty - Brown) 1:32:00 [3] 7.9 km (11:39 / km) +415m 9:13 / km
shoes: Jalas Black

Thought this would be tough and it was. Some great long legs and some good competition with GY and SG and others. Poor direct route over the hill to 2, then slw round the wind blown to 3. Miss at 6 at least 1 min. Long route to 13 toiling behind CMCL and JR and then took the path route round to 14 as i couldn't face the rough stuff again. Took time out of folk doing it though. Really didn't miss much overall but lost time on a couple of route choices.

Will be interesting to see Routegadget for this one when it's available.

Saturday Feb 2, 2013 #

Trail 40:30 [3]
shoes: Icebugs

Off the plane at lunchtime and into the snowy woods.

From Potarch looped over the trig point with K. Both feeling heavy legged, but lovely afternoon to be out.
