Warm up/down 10:00 [2]
shoes: VJ Twister (2)

Before start at Torver.

Orienteering race (Twin Peaks Torver) 59:00 [3] 6.3 km (9:22 / km)
shoes: VJ Twister (2)

Bit frustrated by letting things slip somewhat later on.

Careful to 1 and 2, losing a bit of time. Lost more at 6 as misread the map and overshot down the hill then fine through to 14, where I promptly ran round the wrong side of the thicket and dithered losing at least a minute. Them messed up 16 big time (3-4 mins). 6-7 minutes down the tubes. Running reasonably well but again struggled on the ups.

Good trip and nice to see the Lakes in Feb sunshine.

Saturday Feb 26, 2011 #

Warm up/down 20:00 [3]
shoes: VJ Twister (2)

w/u to start of Twin Peaks then jogged back after with KM.
2 PM

Orienteering race (Twin Peaks - Torver) 34:40 [4]
shoes: VJ Twister (2)

Slipped and slithered through the woodland bits..didn't get much grip with my Twisters, just as well I'd planned on replacing them soon...and the sole is falling off now too.

Too far up the re-entrant to 1, toiled on the hills, caught up KM just before 9 but lost a good minute there by not going far enough as she did too. Ok until 13 then hesitant and slightly confused by control location, 14 seemed low down, and then I was too low at 15. Racing KM from 9.

Probably lost 3 minutes.

Note
(rest day)

Due one...6 day planning.
Some stats:have averaged 40 minutes per day over 1138 days, covering 838 sessions since starting AP.
Hopefully a good proportion has been meaningful stuff.

Pre DNC 12
6 PM

Orienteering race (DNC 12 Scolty) 58:00 [3]

Final race of a great series.
Overshot 4 and Fin nearly caught me up, then well high (as was he) to 5, struggled along behind him over and down the back of Scolty. Then he disappeared and I made a big mistake late on at 14.

Not a great run tonight but happy enough to nail 4th in the series behind Jon, Fin and Dan. Would have happily settled for that at the beginning.
9 PM

Note

Good curry after..loads of folk..40?. Wow.

To Oban. Wild and snowy on the way over. Not looking forward to the Ardchattan hill. Cleared up a bit tho and wasn't half bad.
Out for about 5 hours..good mm training.

Pre-and post DNC Coull

Orienteering race (DNC 11 Coull) 44:57 [4] 4.6 km (9:46 / km)
shoes: VJ Twister (2)

Another top DNC. Wet and a little foggy but but excellent.

Best run at the DNC for a while, lost time by being too far left at 4 but apart from that little loss of note. Slow but sure route to 13. Well focussed pretty much all the way and nice not to have other folk about for the distractions. Ended just 10s behind Fin but still some way behind an impressive visitor, Joe T. They are just wee'ns anyway :-)

Will be sorry to close out this series next week.

Pre Darnaway

Orienteering race (MOR-Darnaway) 1:02:00 [4] *** 6.6 km (9:24 / km)
spiked:16/18c shoes: VJ Twister (2)

Pretty rotten day weather wise.
Bad start but got much better. All over the place at 1, and missed path just after 2. Once I'd sorted those things all was pretty good. Running pretty well and spiked everything.

Shame they've felled some more.

Saturday Feb 12, 2011 #

Trail / Road Run 58:30 [3]
shoes: Nike Pegasus 27

Hill of Banchory, Crathes West Lodge, western tracks, cross the Deeside Railway and back through to Morrisons and home.

There's something about running past the new Tescos while people are piling shopping into their car boots that is somewhat satisfying.

Don't usually run with an ipod but did today, listening to a triathlon podcast. Some quite motivating stuff as it happens.

Intended a long one but felt tired, slight sore throat so gave it a miss.

6 PM

Orienteering race (DNC 10, Tyrebagger) 59:00 [3]

2 DNC races in 3 days.
Nice night. Thrown by indistinct paths a couple of times tonight...and a very small pit.

1 mins at 2, another at 5 (no way is that depression as big as shown on them map), then 5 at the, miniscule, pit I guess. Ran out of 7 the wrong way trying to lose CL again. 9 another 3 due to lack of path shown on the map. Hmm 10 mins + down the drain. Not good.

Never have been any good in this place.

Ten races down, two to go at Coull and Scolty.....and a curry.

Tuesday Feb 8, 2011 #

Note
(rest day)

Agreed to run lunchtime but work got in the way of my fellow runner's participation and I actually welcomed the day off after the previous night at Hazlehead.

Monday Feb 7, 2011 #

6 PM

Orienteering (DNC10-Hazlehead) 1:09:00 [3] 8.4 km (8:13 / km)
shoes: VJ Twister (2)

Bit of a blast round the golf course and environs but certainly trickier at night than during the day. Still sloppy and probably trying to go too fast.

Seriously messed about in a couple of places, particularly round the old caravan park, where I contrived to do 8-11-9-10-11-12 and most of of them badly. Also faffed around looking for the crossing point between 13 and 14, and then scaled the gate, finding out later it was unlocked anyway.

All the fun of the fair.

Sunday Feb 6, 2011 #

11 AM

Trail / Terrain Run 20:00 [3]
shoes: VJ Twister (2)

MAROC Junior Training at Inchmarnoch. Warm-up round via Cambus bridge, some shadowing and then a bit of control collecting.

Was going to go out again later but got stuck into too many other things.

Saturday Feb 5, 2011 #

Trail / Road Run 30:00 [3]

Wednesday Feb 2, 2011 #

6 PM

Warm up/down 10:00 [3]
shoes: VJ Twister (2)

Up the long track to the start at Birsemore..and wandering back from the Finish.

Orienteering race (DNC 9 - Birsemore) 1:07:09 [3] 5.8 km (11:35 / km)
shoes: VJ Twister (2)

Quality night-O, shame about the navigation.

Nice warmish night. very wary of no1 so took it carefully although lost a bit of time in the initial fight and was across the big track without noticing..picked off the rentrant and marsh and straight in to control. Too high at 2 and initially met the pack of AT, EH and JR. JR disappeared for good around 9 but was with EH for most, with AT catching us up when EH, JR and I made a real hash of 7. For the rest he was probably Orienteering the best of us. Lost some time in a lot of places most particularly at 7 (?5 mins) and 13 (2 - 3 mins+). Fun in the variable pack but probably would have done better without it...very very sloppy at times.

Tuesday Feb 1, 2011 #

Trail / Road Run 46:00 [3]
shoes: Nike Pegasus 27

Hazlehead loop plus extra Anderson Drive piece at the end for good measure. With RW at a good tempo.
