Orienteering (Scotjos Hermitage) 50:00 [3]
shoes: VJ Twister (2)

More of the same, this time at Hermitage. A little more snow here, but mostly on the forest roads, so once again some very welcome snow free O. Some Hill reps, some shadowing and some control retrieval in amongst the coaching of the same 3.

Top weekend and a real bonus - spring may yet be coming!

Saturday Feb 27, 2010 #

Orienteering (Scotjos Faskally) 50:00 [3]
shoes: VJ Twister (2)

Scotjos w/e at Faskally. Control hanging, collecting and coaching plus a short intervals session.
Having not been sure this would be on it came as a real bonus to find Faskally almost bereft of snow so the strong show of support and effort put in by almost everyone meant a really good turnout. The reward was clearly some really good snow free O for a change and a good intro to Scotjos for a lot of the youngsters with the oldies setting a really good example.

Coaching CG, CN and RP.

Orienteering race (DNC12 Crathes) 25:00 [3] 3.0 km (8:20 / km)
shoes: VJ Twister (2)

Arrived late after taking 90minutes to get home and plenty more pushing cars up our street so in deference to the organiser and the curry ran the short course.

Lovely fresh snow - the tracks no doubt helped but great fun to end a top notch and amazingly snowy series....and equally amazingly all 12 races went ahead..well done folks.

Warm up/down 10:00 [3]
shoes: VJ Twister (2)

With K after Crathes DNC. Lovely run in the snow.

Tuesday Feb 23, 2010 #

Trail / Road Run 42:30 [3] 8.5 km (5:00 / km)
shoes: Icebugs

Was going to make this at a decent tempo but felt most unlike doing that so it turned into some mindless miles. The upside though was it was a cracking day in Aberdeen and with reasonable snow on a lot of the tracks at Hazlehead it was just great to be out. Fair bit of ice testified to by the guy on a bike who totally wiped out 2 secs after passing me. I would put bike pigdekks on before venturing out on that stuff on two wheels.

Some hamstring tenderness after Sunday.

Core & Strength 40:00 [3]

At home.

Sunday Feb 21, 2010 #

11 AM

Warm up/down 15:00 [3]
shoes: VJ Twister (2)

Bitterly cold out of the bright sunshine, -8 at home. W/u on the way up to the start from Potarch Green. Cracking day on Deeside.

Orienteering race (MAROC Ballogie) 1:14:09 [4] *** 8.6 km (8:37 / km) +175m 7:50 / km
spiked:14/18c shoes: VJ Twister (2)

Had RH starting just behind.
Stood beside no1 not seeing the marker in the snow so faffed about. Bit of a banana to 2 and slightly to right of 3 where RH nearly caught me. Slow on the short leg to 4 then took right hand route to 5 whereas left might have been quicker. Certainly RH seemed to be almost level when we met again after he'd gone that way. Pulled away to 6 and then didn't see him again after long slog uphill to 7. Clean from there on in except very slow through not reading control descriptions at 13.

Overall pleased enough, perhaps 3 minutes lost, mainly early on..seemed to be running ok. Lovely running in the snow but tough.

Saturday Feb 20, 2010 #

Turbo 50:00 [3]

In town most of the day and didn't fancy it later so took a turbo session.

Thursday Feb 18, 2010 #

Note

Reflection on last nights DNC.
That's maybe the closest I've come to winning a DNC Long Race..closest that is in terms of position but a mile away in terms of time. Jon, you could have stayed in Norway a wee bit longer couldn't you?
8 PM

Swim 50:00 [3] 2.1 km (23:49 / km)

100 x 20m front crawl in 48 then 5 breast stroke warm down. Getting quicker.

Wednesday Feb 17, 2010 #

11 AM

Gym 43:00 [3]
shoes: Reebok Premier RoadPlus

10 mins wu/wd
Weights session no 2
5 PM

Orienteering (DNC - Coull) 48:23 [3] *** 4.3 km (11:15 / km) +180m 9:18 / km
spiked:13/16c shoes: VJ Twister (2)

Lovely bright night. Great course from Ben. Lovely snow ..again, will it never end?

Really enjoyed running on Queens Hill, not really sure planning the SOL really helped though. Not particularly fluent round the first 12 but slow at times but nothing too significant in terms of mistakes. 13 was different and lost at least a couple of minutes - not concentrating and confused the contours. Another minute at 14 when not seeing control behind the tree.
5 mins lost probably.

Tired now.

Warm up/down (Pre Darnaway) 10:00 [3]
shoes: VJ Twister (2)

Not enough probably

Orienteering race (MOR Darnaway) 56:00 [4] 6.3 km (8:53 / km)
shoes: VJ Twister (2)

To Darnaway with K. First daytime O race for a good while..can't remember when. The year starts here probably.

Ran Blue to go easy on hamstring.
Reasonably clean albeit slow at times. Faffed about at 8 losing perhaps a minute then wandered a bit in the green at 14. Stood beside the last control for a bit without seeing it. 3 mins lost I guess. Really enjoyed it and the hamstring was good. Bit slow in terrain though.

Saturday Feb 6, 2010 #

Trail 40:00 [3]

Crathes loop with K for first half, then carried on when she didn't feel so good.

Friday Feb 5, 2010 #

11 AM

Trail / Road Run (Glen O'Dee) 28:00 [3]
shoes: Icebugs

Soggy, muddy, icy you name it..right grotty. Need to run more!

More Glen O'Dee mods needed..this time for burying electrical cable and removing the overhead lines.
8 PM

Note

Good post Aberdeen work currry stomp from Union Street to just about Cults..mistimed buses.

Time this snow and ice disappeared - had enough of it now. Fortunately it seems to be.

Thursday Feb 4, 2010 #

8 PM

Swim 1:00:00 [3] 2.4 km (25:00 / km)

Went well tonight.
106 x 20m front crawl
14 x 20m breast stroke
getting easier.

Quite enjoyed it. Would have been a bit quicker but for the obstructions.

Wednesday Feb 3, 2010 #

Note
(rest day)

Too much going on for DNC and just too tired from weekend etc to do anything meaningful.

Tuesday Feb 2, 2010 #

Gym 40:00 [3]
shoes: Reebok Premier RoadPlus

DOMS as they seem to say these days.
S&C with a whole load of new stretching of the hamstrings.

Monday Feb 1, 2010 #

Note

Postscript to Detox:
What sort of encouragement is it for juniors when you have one class for those under 40?
Just turned 17 years old and you finish 2nd in the Under 40s. Hardly complimentary! Although trying to be objective suppose you could turn it around and view it as such...just sounds a bit weird.

Note

To physio to give the hamstring another seeing to. Keep running he says, got more stretches to do.
