Biking 38:00 [3]
(injured)

Biking on the bike trainer in the living room! It was snowing and in the 20s today, which seemed like non-ideal biking conditions, but I wanted to get some exercise, so Sam very kindly set up the bike trainer for me. I'm pretty sure road biking in the Berkeley hills has ruined me for road biking anywhere else, but it has especially ruined me for biking in place. That said, it was preferable to not exercising, and I watched some Netflix to keep from falling asleep

The good news was that my ankle felt great for this. The bad news is that my butt now hurts at least as badly as you might expect it would hurt after not biking for 3 months. Ouch. My ankle actually felt better after biking than before. It's still not perfect, particularly on stairs, but it is improving. Good to get the heart rate up a bit!

Strength 5:00 [3]

Normal abs.

Stretching 10:00 [3]

Normal stretching.

Today I was a good girl and rested my ankle. Rest seems to help. (Strange, I know.) It still hurts occasionally when I step wrong, but it is much better going up and down stairs and walking around. I might have to take it easy this weekend, but hopefully I can get it back to normal soon.

Woohoo! I did some actual lab things in lab today! This included acquiring chemicals from the chemistry stock room, which were very heavy. I then had to lug them back across the campus to my building, and my arms got very sore. This feels absurd to log, but I will be sore, and it's not like I did anything more interesting on the exercise front today.

Ok, now for the bad news. My ankle is still not great. Mostly walking is ok now, but going up and down stairs is not. I had to do a surprising amount of walking today - to and from the chemistry stockroom and then back and forth across my very long building about a hundred times. My old building seemed kind of long when I was working there, but I have a new benchmark for long lab buildings now.

In other bad news, my package finally arrived, completely thawed and impressively crushed. That's 1000s of hours of work. Gone.

(injured)

My ankle was painful just walking around but better than last night. Definitely no running tomorrow. Hopefully things will be looking up by the weekend.

In FedEx news, it appears that my package teleported from Indianapolis to Memphis over the course of the past week, but it seems to be moving out of Memphis now, so hopefully I'll get it soon??

Running 40:00 [3] 4.2 mi (9:31 / mi)
(injured) shoes: Brooks Running 24

Running with Presto after lab! Or sort of lab. I was physically in the lab, at least. It was pretty cold, so I put on some extra layers and headed out to burn off some FedEx frustration. The run was very nice for the first 2 miles, but then my right ankle started hurting. It's been sort of randomly a bit painful for like a minute or two, but not in any sustained way since the fall last week. I didn't really think much about it because it never hurt while running, and I'd sort of forget about it after it happened because it never stuck around. Tonight it just started hurting and kept hurting with every step. I was kind of stuck, though, because I was at the furthest point of my run and my options were walk home and get hypothermia or run home on a messed up ankle. I chose to run home because hypothermia seemed like an even worse idea than making my ankle worse. Every step was painful, and while I didn't think I was adjusting my stride much, I must have been because my left leg was quite tired by the time I got home. Ugh.

Strength 5:00 [3]

Normal abs.

Stretching 10:00 [3]

Normal stretching. My ankle was painful just sitting and walking around for the rest of the evening.

Note

Update on FedEx Purgatory, today I have been told that my package is:

A) definitely in Ithaca (FedEx customer service)
B) in Indianapolis (FedEx people in Ithaca)
C) never made it to Indianapolis (FedEx tracing department)

Why am I doing bio research? I should clearly start looking into quantum physics options.

Running 44:00 [3] 4.9 mi (8:59 / mi)
shoes: Brooks Running 24

Running with Presto! I was originally planning to go running in the morning, but we woke up to discover that we had no water. (This week is going great!) And I wasn't super excited about going running and then not being able to shower. But our water was only off until midday, so I got out after lunch. The nice part about this was that I got to run in only a single shirt and no hat. Luxurious. Presto was super slow today, and it was super icy around Beebe Lake, but it was super nice to be outside for a while. Fun, fun!

Stretching 10:00 [3]

Normal stretching while determining that FedEx is still unclear on whether the package is definitely in Ithaca or definitely in Indianapolis.
