Cross-Country Skiing (Skate) 1:30:00 [3] 7.3 mi (12:20 / mi)
shoes: Solomon Skate Skis

Skiing with Sam and Presto at Connecticut Hill! We headed back out today to ski the rest of the skateable trails at Connecticut Hill today. It snowed a few inches this morning, and I'm not sure when the last time the groomers were out was, so it was quite soft and lumpy today - a lot of work, but still totally skateable. I'm not sure if last week's loop or this week's loop had more total climb, but this week's was very up and down and up and down and up and down. Last week's was more California-esque in its giant up and giant down. The only problem was that the Saturday is apparently snowmobile day, so we spent a lot of time grabbing Presto and lurching to the side of the trail. The snowmobiles are the only reason these trails are skateable, though, so it's hard to be too annoyed with this. We've resorted to keeping beef jerky in our pockets to keep Presto EXTREMELY attuned to our precise location at all times :-). Other than that it was a great day to get out for a super fun ski!

Running 40:00 [3] 4.2 mi (9:31 / mi)
shoes: Brooks Running 24

Running with Presto after not-lab! Presto became very insistent that I stop working about half an hour before I was actually ready to stop working and ended up squishing in between me and my computer keyboard to try to get me to stop, which was kind of hilarious. We then headed out for a run into a lovely light snow. The sidewalk clearing machines here have these huge brushes that sweep the snow off the sidewalk. They work great when the snow is fluffy, but when we get ice, they are essentially zambonis and just make the sidewalks extra slippery. It's been a bit treacherous the past couple of days, but there was enough snow on top of the ice tonight that it wasn't really a problem. Presto and I were both having a great time on the trails around the lake and had a bit of an argument about who got to run in front on the narrow trails :-). Fun, fun!

Running 33:00 [3] 3.4 mi (9:42 / mi)
shoes: Brooks Running 24

Running with Sam and Presto after not-lab! We got sort of a sloppy mess instead of our promised 8-12 inches of snow overnight, then sort of a random weather generator's series of weather events during the day, and then rapidly falling temperatures in the evening, so it was cold and slippery by the time we got out for a run tonight. We didn't cross the creek tonight and just stayed on our side of Beebe Lake. We did have a kind of worrying moment when Presto stopped to poop (and I stopped to pick up Presto's poop). Somehow Sam did not notice the lack of crunching feet behind him, and just kept running. By the time I finished picking up Presto's poop, I did not know where Sam was, and it took a little while to find each other. Oops. It was fine in the end, but it was a kind of cold several minutes of searching in the dark. Then it was just a very, very cold run back to the house. I might need some more intense ear warmers... Still super good to get out after a very solid day in front of the computer.

Cross-Country Skiing (Skate) 1:30:00 [3] 8.0 mi (11:15 / mi)
shoes: Solomon Skate Skis

Skiing with Sam and Presto at Connecticut Hill! The snowmobile trails at Connecticut Hill seemed totally skateable the last time we were here, and our skate skis finally arrived, so we decided to head out for a ski today. It was great! I think I only skate skied once last year (if that?), and none this year, so it took me a little bit to get back into the swing of things. I've also only been skiing on backcountry skis with metal edges for a while now. The skate skis felt astonishingly light, which was great! Sadly, they are also not as good at stopping as my backcountry skis, which took a bit of getting used to. It was never really a problem, but there was a moment when I went to pick up Presto's bootie after it had fallen off as he sped down a hill and finally actually stopped like 30 feet away from the bootie. I was much more careful after that. Presto had a blast! I'm not sure when the last time he got to run at Presto-running-speed so much was, but he was really enjoying speeding along next to us :-).

Stretching 10:00 [3]

Normal stretching before spending some time building Lego flowers with Sam while Presto took a pretty serious post-ski nap. Quality Valentine's Day activities :-).
