Hiking 2:00:00 [3] 8.0 mi (15:00 / mi) +600m 12:10 / mi
shoes: Brooks Running 21

Hiking with Sam and Presto to Feather Falls! We wanted to get in a nice hike this weekend, so after searching around, chose what we believed to be a trail in the middle of nowhere to a smallish waterfall. Oops. This was not what it was. It was actually a trail in the middle of nowhere to very possibly the best waterfall in CA outside of Yosemite that everyone who was bored in CA decided to hike today.

We were wearing masks and attempting to get out of people's way on the trail, but we were literally the one ones doing this. Some people were so out of it, that they actually thought that we were getting Presto out of their way rather than attempting to social distance. They were telling us that their dog was friendly or that they didn't mind Presto or something, and we were kind of like, um, that is NOT why we are wearing masks and climbing up off this trail... Luckily the trail was a loop, so there wasn't *too* much people passing that needed to be done, but it was still kind of terrifying, especially since the sides of the trail were full of poison oak, so we were kind of tiptoeing around. I am scared for when this virus really hits the rural areas.

Anyway, aside from social distancing issues, the hike was super nice - mostly under trees with some nice views of the canyon and then a 410 foot awesome waterfall! Wow! I wish we'd felt comfortable spending more time oggling the waterfall, but we wanted to keep moving, so we just got a quick glimpse and then moved on.

The hike back was mostly uneventful (and blessedly devoid of other people), but we did see a 3 foot long California king snake, which was super cool. Fun day, and hopefully not too much of a mistake!

Stretching 10:00 [3]

Stretching back home. My hip feels a bit sore after the drive back, but felt great during the hike, so that's good.

Running 33:00 [3] 3.3 mi (10:00 / mi)

Running with Presto after not-lab! I was feeling much better today than yesterday. My stomach issues seem nearly gone. My hip/butt/upper glute pain was better when I woke up this morning than when I went to sleep last night, and then proceeded to get better and better throughout the day. By the time I got out for a run, it was actually starting to feel pretty normal, if a bit weak. (I'm guessing having the nerve randomly firing for the past couple of days has been confusing the muscles in that area.)

Running felt good tonight. I was tempted to continue on up the hill for a slightly longer loop, but discretion is the better part of valor, and I'd like the hip/butt pain to continue on its current trajectory, so I reigned myself in. The views across the Bay were super cool tonight. Berkeley had its personal super-dense fog bank and San Francisco had its personal super-dense fog bank, but the middle of the Bay and Oakland were fog-free so there was an awesome bright section in the middle and towards the south surrounded by very low dark clouds. Amazing!

Running 35:03 [3] 3.3 mi (10:37 / mi)
shoes: Brooks Running 23

Running with Presto after not-lab! I have some sort of minor stomach bug/food poisoning. Also, my right hip has been bothering me today. It seems sciatica-ish. But I wanted to get outside for a little while, so I decided to go for an easy run. I can't say it felt all that easy, but both my stomach and hip felt better while running than at any other point in the day. Maybe I should exclusively be running. No more work for me?

Presto was quite pleased to be out. It is pretty chilly this week, so he's all raring to go on the runs. Also, I guess we weren't moving all that quickly, so he couldn't really drag much and still be moving. Good to get out!

Strength 5:00 [3]

Normal abs. I decided to give the glutes a rest until whatever is going on with my hip is sorted out.

Stretching 10:00 [3]

Normal stretching. My hip couldn't decide if this was the best or worst part of the day.

Running 40:24 [3] 4.0 mi (10:06 / mi)
shoes: Brooks Running 23

Running with Sam and Presto after not-lab! We headed up to the fire trail for a nice run in the forest tonight. It was exceedingly pleasant. The intermittent drizzle over the past couple of days softened up the trail considerably, but didn't turn it into a mud bath. The grass was green, the views were good, and the breeze was pleasant and cool. Presto was excited about running and sniffing everything and generally having an awesome time. Perfect!

Strength 14:00 [3]

Normal abs and glutes.

Running 1:23:45 [3] 8.0 mi (10:28 / mi)
shoes: Brooks Running 23

Running with Presto on the Nimitz Trail! It appeared that the grass in Tilden was still at least a little green, so I decided to get one last green run in. It was kind of astonishingly different from yesterday - 50s, breezy, pleasantly sunny - just a delightful day to be out for a run. Ah, the difference a few miles makes!

My body wasn't quite sure what to do with the 40 degree temperature differential from yesterday, but aside from getting a bit cold during some of the windier sections, it was all good. The difference in the grass on the Tilden ridge rather than the Briones ridge was pretty astounding, but I think this is it for green grass until next winter. Presto dragged for the first 3 miles, and then decided it was actually a nice day to be outside, and ran alongside me, which was nice for a change. I was going to leave him at home today, but he was all spritely on our walk this morning, so it seemed like yesterday's issues were entirely temperature related. Good to get out!
