Running 13:28 [3] 1.5 mi (8:59 / mi)
shoes: Brooks Running 19

Running down to campus with Presto to vet control locations for the UC Berkeley meet in a few weeks!

Orienteering 1:07:28 [3] *** 5.5 mi (12:16 / mi)
25c shoes: Brooks Running 19

Vetting control locations at UC Berkeley with Presto! The map needs some updating, but generally I think the control locations are ok. I am still super tired and fell asleep while sort of vaguely thinking about getting ready to get outside. Today seemed to be strangely popular for glamour shots on Berkeley campus. I ran through 2 different photo shoots multiple times. Oops. Presto was even more popular than usual on campus :-).

Stretching 10:00 [3]

Normal stretching.

Running 32:35 [3] 3.1 mi (10:31 / mi)
shoes: Brooks Running 19

Running with Sam and Presto after lab! Ugh. This was harder than it should have been. I was hoping that all the time at altitude would make up for the fact that I haven't run in 2 weeks, but alas, it did not. I've also just been completely exhausted since getting back from the mountains (my body has clearly decided it's time to relax!), and the cold I caught in NH is still kind of lingering along...so this was kind of hard and kind of slow. My hairband also fell out at some point and my braid came out. I don't know if I've ever run with my hair down before. At first my scalp felt kind of cool because the breeze could get through my hair, but then it just got kind of hot because I was basically wearing a sweater. Still really nice to get out and as Presto has clearly completely recovered from the past couple of weeks, it was pretty necessary :-).

Strength 5:00 [3]

Normal abs. These actually felt ok.

Stretching 10:00 [3]

Normal stretching. I am much looser than I was on Monday, so that's good at least!

Hiking 5:00 [3]

Day 5 of our backpacking trip in the John Muir Wilderness! After breakfast we trooped over to the ferry stop, where we met a ton of JMT through hikers who kept asking us if we were PCT through hikers. (I guess all the men on the trip looked extremely shaggy?)

The ferry ride was fun and once we'd done the car shuttle, Sam, Brendan, Nadine, and I completed our tour de lakes by jumping into Florence Lake and then heading down the mountain to get burgers and milkshakes at the Hungry Hut. Awesome, awesome trip!!!!

Stretching 20:00 [3]

Nice long stretch back at home.

Hiking 8:00:00 [3] 14.0 mi (34:17 / mi) +500m 30:52 / mi
shoes: Brooks Running 18

Day 4 of our backpacking trip in the John Muir Wilderness! Ed has a flight out of SFO tomorrow at 9:30pm and after seeing how long it took for us to get here, we figured we'd better hoof it down to Lake Edison today. The trip out of the pass was FILLED with mosquitoes and excellent views. There was one particularly bad stream crossing where we all got tons of bites (and extremely wet).

We eventually made it to a SUPER nice river that we hiked along for a while before heading back up an unnamed (but fairly substantial) hill/mountain/ridge thing. The ridge was forested, so we didn't have fantastic views until we popped out on a really nice rocky outcrop for a snack overlooking Lake Edison.

From there it was a pretty easy hike to the ferry stop at Lake Edison where we camped for the night. Lake Edison only had a few mosquitoes and was significantly warmer than Marie Lake, so we got some swimming and some star gazing in before calling it a night.

Stretching 20:00 [3]

My right knee was not thrilled with the stream crossings + pack and started hurting quite a bit. Luckily after a snack break stop where I did a bunch of stretching, it felt fine and we didn't have to devise a way to redistribute my weight.

I also stretched a goodly amount at the campsite.
