Note
(injured) (sick)

Went out to Sacramento to see my parents and Kiwi and Boyse who are there for a dog show. We did a reasonable amount of walking around but I started feeling worse and worse as the day went on and ended up going to sleep with a horrible headache without stretching. Oops.

Roller Blading 45:02 [3] 5.2 mi (8:40 / mi)
(injured)

Roller blading with Sam and Presto on the Bay Trail! Warm today! Presto was panting and stuff. There were lots of people out biking and walking and running because, I guess, the weather was "nice" today (as opposed to all the other days :-) ), which made for a lot more weaving around people and being weaved around and whatnot, but all in all a good way to spend the evening.

Stretching 20:00 [3]

Limber 11 + calves + evening nerve glides. I'm noticing a definite improvement since starting these, but my knee is still not perfect. Sadly, today the PT place discovered that they do not in fact take my insurance, so I am sans PT appointment again. I will have to look into rectifying that.

Stretching 15:00 [3]

Last night was the first night in a while that I didn't wake up with hip pain in the middle of the night, so I'll take that as a win (although my knee was hurting a little bit in the morning). I figured I'd do a quicker version of the Limber 11 before heading into work. Switching between legs on the moutain climbers is still kind of difficult, but I managed to do the cossack squat.

My knee was a bit painful while walking Presto but was fine by the time I'd finished biking into work. Also, sleeping through the night is fantastic!

Swimming 35:00 [3] 1.0 mi (35:00 / mi)

Swimming at Spieker Pool! Good hard workout tonight! I was actually able to do breaststroke tonight, so I guess there has been some improvement since the last time I was in the pool, which is good news. Oh yeah, and dolphin kick was more comfortable, so all in all an improvement. The back of my hip (SI joint??) has been hurting, though...sigh... I have a PT appointment for Monday, so hopefully I'll start figuring out specifics of what to do to get better!

Stretching 6:00 [3]

Normal stretching plus evening nerve glides. Also managed another painfree night of sleeping (writing this Wednesday morning), so that's good news as well.

Stretching 30:00 [3]

I decided to try the "Limber 11" routine to see if this will improve things since what I'm doing now clearly isn't working well. This was surprisingly difficult!

Foam roll ITB: He suggests bending and straightening the leg while sitting on the most painful spots. This was agonizing...

Foam roll adductor

Tennis ball roll glutes/piriformis: OUCH, OUCH, OUCH!!!

Bent-knee iron cross: Not sure how much this is really doing for me

Roll-over into V-sits

Rocking frog stretch

Fire hydrant circles: My mobility seems fine but this was probably more of a strength thing for me than it should be

Mountain climbers: The stretch was fine but switching back and forth between legs was surprisingly difficult

Cossack squats: Ok, this was nearly impossible even holding onto the couch. I'm not 100% sure what this is supposed to be stretching (staight-leg hamstrings or something in the bent leg?), but I could only do 1 or 2 of these before falling over.

Seated piriformis stretch

Rear-foot elevated hip-flexor stretch: This feels more like a nerve stretch than a muscle stretch to me.

I was shaking when I was done, so clearly this was doing something. Hopefully it's something useful!

Biking 1:00:00 [3] 8.5 mi (7:04 / mi)
shoes: Specialized Hardrock

Mountain biking at Redwoods with Sam and Presto! It felt good to get out and really bike hard today! This definitely felt better than last week's mountain bike excursion, which does give me some hope for the future. My knee felt fine, and my hip tightened up much later into the ride. Presto was a super happy dog blasting down the trails, which is always fun to watch :-).

Stretching 6:00 [3]

Normal stretching and evening nerve glides.
