Running 26:45 [3] 3.1 mi (8:38 / mi)
shoes: Brooks Running 2

Running with Presto from my apartment to the river and then the JFK-River St. loop. I was feeling uncomfortably tight and my left knee was hurting the tiniest bit.

Orienteering 40:47 [3] * 4.8 mi (8:30 / mi)
spiked:5/6c shoes: Brooks Running 2

CSU Street-O from my place. Pia, Sanna, Ian, Brendan, Ross, Alex, Presto, and I were there. It was sort of nicely drizzling for most of the time. I was supposed to leave a map in the mail box for Brendan, but I forgot. I ran basically the whole way to number 1 before realizing this and then had to run back to my apartment, put the map outside, and then start over again. By this point, I didn't have time to go to number 4. My right leg was cramping up for the first 20 minutes or so, but seemed to sort itself out more or less by the end. It's nice when pain gets less as you exercise :-). I spent a long time at number 3 being really confused by an extra street before deciding it was not in fact on the map. Otherwise, this was really fun!

Running 28:01 [3] 4.0 mi (7:00 / mi)
shoes: Brooks Running 2

Went running with Presto from my apartment to the river and then did the JFK-River St. loop crossing every bridge. I did 4x30s strides towards the end. I ran into Jane, a friend of mine from high school. Apparently she and her friends were admiring Presto and then she said, wait a minute, I know that girl! Her friends didn't believe her at all, but in fact she did know me :-). They went to Williams, so I asked if they knew Ross and amusingly enough they did. Running felt really nice tonight. The weather was perfect, and my legs actually felt good, which was a nice change :-).

Strength 10:00 [3]

5c shoes: New Balance Orienteering

Short receiver training at the Blue Hills. Les set out receivers with no controls on them all about 100-200m apart. I missed all of them on the first cycle. I then found 2 and 3 on the second cycle. I missed 4 and then went on to 5. I didn't find 5 on that cycle, but I decided I didn't have time to run back down to 1 and actually find it, and I knew that I was incredibly close to 5, so I hunted around and found it off cycle. I then trouped off to 4 and found it just off cycle. I ran down to 1 and found it just as the cycle was ending and ran to the finish. I used the technique of running along the trail and listening for the signal to change direction, so I had a good idea of at least what line the control was on before I went into the woods. I should try to employ this in normal length courses as well.

CSU training at Hale Reservation. Pia designed a course at Hale before the CSU meeting. Hale is incredibly thick, so she tried to have legs be as much on trail as possible, which I appreciated. My hips were hurting, and I was moving quite slowly. I was also probably incredibly dehydrated for the entire course. By the end I had a headache from dehydration. Mostly things went smoothly, if slowly. One of the controls required trouping through enough thorns that Presto tried to mutiny, so I had to stop and clear a pathway for him. Things got a bit interesting towards the end of the course where the map was more of a suggestion of what would be on the ground than anything else. We made it back, though and then had some awesome food at Mark and Pia's. Well at least I had some awesome food. Presto went to sleep.
