Orienteering 14:25 [3] *** 1.5 km (9:37 / km)
spiked:14/14c shoes: New Balance Orienteering

Park-O sprint at Simsbury State Forest. There was a pretty decent size snowfall last night/this morning, so we were running in powder, which definitely made things both more fun and more difficult. This was Presto's first time in real snow. He thought it was great, but also too cold. Hopefully his booties will come soon... The course was pretty easy, so I didn't really make any mistakes. The only problems I had were, I didn't realize that there were going to be ribbons instead of controls, so when I got to the first control, I was really confused. Then when I got to the finish, I didn't see the finish control, so I just went straight to the download station and downloaded, thinking I was finishing. Everyone was staring at me and then someone finally said, you know the finish is over there... Yeah...oops... Anyway, so my time was actually probably about 30 seconds faster...

Orienteering 32:35 [3] *** 2.3 km (14:10 / km)
spiked:8/10c shoes: New Balance Orienteering

Woods-O at Simsbury State Park. This was my second course. Luckily for this one, I had warmed up enough that I could feel my feet and hands, but what with running in the snow and stuff, I was starting to get tired by the end of this. I had one stupid mistake going to number 8, where I was thinking ahead of where I was and thought I was already on a trail that I hadn't actually gotten to yet. I probably lost a minute or 2. It was definitely not the best route. Then going to 9, I went into a re-entrant that lots of other people had also gone to judging by the footprints. The re-entrant didn't have the control, so I spent a little time looking around and then realized it was in the next re-entrant over. Other than that, things went well, and this was an awesome meet!

Running 38:51 [3] 4.4 mi (8:50 / mi)
shoes: Brooks Running

Ran with Presto from my apartment to the river then did a very strange not-a-loop due to lots of ice on the Boston side of the river: JFK to River St., not going on the Boston side of the river between Weeks and River St., but crossing the Western Ave. and River St. bridges twice (as well as crossing the Weeks and JFK bridges once). Then I ran to lab to start some CIPing reactions, and then I ran home to eat lunch before dashing back to lab to *hopefully* finish making some plasmids.

Running 33:44 [3] 3.6 mi (9:22 / mi)
shoes: Brooks Running

Went running with Brendan and Presto this morning. It was quite cold out, and I was feeling quite slow. This was compounded by the fact that there was a lot of ice on the ground, and I wanted to finish the run in the same relatively uninjured state that I started it in. I already managed to pull a muscle in my leg slipping in the icy slush on Wednesday. We ran to the river and then did the JFK-River St. loop crossing every bridge. (For my future reference, it was 20F, I was wearing under armour, nylon pants, a nylon jacket, a head band, and gloves, and was fine temperature-wise.)

Strength 10:00 [3]
