Hiking 3:30:00 [3] 11.0 mi (19:05 / mi) +1000m 14:53 / mi
shoes: Sacony Xodus

Hiking up Kaiser Peak with Sam, Holly, Bryan, and Presto! There was a 10,320ft peak right next to our campsite, so we obviously had to go check it out!

The trailhead was right by D&F Packstation, which does what sound like awesome horseback riding trips into the Sierras (take note future me!). We took no horses with us this time (alas), but we did have a very tired Presto! The trail was pretty unrelentingly up to College Rock, which had fantastic views across Huntington Lake. We had a snack and then continued up past 2 false peaks. Holly and Bryan decided to hang out at the second false peak while Sam, Presto, and I summitted. And man, was it totally worth it. We had amazing views across to the Pacific Crest. I think we could see the Minarets, Banner Peak, and even Mt. Whitney. It was pretty incredible.

After lunch at the summit, we headed down, found Holly and Bryan, and then continued on. I forgot Presto's booties in the car and the ground was really heating up. At one point Presto just decided to flop down in the shade, so I carried him down the mountain for 10 or 15 minutes until we got to some softer, cooler ground. Definitely among the top 10 hikes we've done in CA!

Stretching 10:00 [3]

Stretching back at home.

The top temperature that we drove through in the Central Valley was either 106 (car thermometer) or 109 (digital thermometer display on a school) and the temperature in Berkeley was 59. My body is confused, but it is easy to see why there are so many people living in the Bay Area.
