Absolutely love head to head racing and this didn't disappoint.
Started off 4 seconds in front of Jon and a bit more before Ben started. My plan was to take it steady and be ready for a change of pace if I started to make mistakes.
Messed #1 up as I was looking at the RC for #2. We were all together to #2 and I think we all spent the track run working out the butterfly loops.
We all missed #3 but I think we were keeping an eye on each other rather than a decent bearing.
I was lucky to be running with Jon on our loop and I completely lost the plot on the way to #8. I managed to sort it out and catch up to Jon at the end of the loop just as Ben appeared before us.
I put my foot down on the open area to #11 to try and catch Ben but he carried on going so I cut a straighter route through the woods. I noticed a control to my right so went to check it just in case. Lucky that I checked the code before going off to our correct control where Ben had just punched it.
Adrenalin kicked in and I hit it hard to catch Ben just before the final control where I took a gamble and didn't get too close to it. It was argy bargy getting through the gap on the run in and I just about got in front at the finish.
It was nice to think about it afterwards that that was the first time I had sprinted since completely tearing my Rec Fem in February. It's slowly retracting up my leg but bothers me less now.
Great event and something we need to do in the South.
