Orienteering 41:44 [3] 5.7 mi (7:19 / mi) +170m 6:42 / mi
shoes: X talon 212

I went out as I always do on a middle. Take it steady like an hour race, get the navigation right and have energy for a good final push.
This worked pretty well and I was even in the lead after 8 controls because I wasn't making the "trying too hard mistakes".
My first error was at #13 were I drifted right on the final bearing after I had gone head over tit entering the woods. I finally saw my error but it cost me 2 minutes.
I was clean until the circle at #16 where I was a little too far left.
The other error was at #19 where I got pulled away by a few elites to their control.
Clean after that and happy to get into the top 3 for all of these splits as going off steady gave me plenty in the tank at the end.

I thought at the start of the weekend I might be able to scrape into the top 5 for maybe one of the finals so very happy to do it twice with no injuries.

I'm looking forward now to next weekend to give it some beans at the Danish long champs.

Swimming 1:00:00 [3] 2.4 km (25:00 / km)

More drills focused so I didn't have to push it.
Not feeling the water very well.

Orienteering race 18:37 [4] 3.6 km (5:10 / km) +60m 4:46 / km

Glad to get the cobwebs out of the way as there was a lot of them.
I didn't see the OOB in the start lane so got caught out by #9. I thought the first fence was a mistake but then the bigger barriers started to make me question were I was exactly.
I stupidly only read the planners notes beforehand so didn't trust the cut through on #15 which was in the final details.
At #22 they decided to let cars through when I tried to cross the road so I completely blew that one.
I wasn't pushing 100% but lack of fitness started to tire me in the middle section.

Orienteering 17:55 [5] 3.7 km (4:51 / km) +50m 4:32 / km

I was happy to take a 5 second pause for the legs through the complex so although I didn't lose a lots of time, I still missed the optimum routes on each.
Generally an ok run with only 5-10 second wobbles. Fortunately I watched some of the elites screw the 2nd to last control so that took me up a few places with a lucky 4th but I'll take that.
Very tired in the 2nd half but that was to be expected.

Orienteering race 38:45 [4] 5.8 km (6:41 / km)
shoes: X talon 212

Not a bad run on this tricky area.
Missed the first control as the thickets were hardly noticeable.
I should have executed #21 better and taken the more obvious route.
It was very easy to misinterpret the tracks and rides so had a few wobbles here and there.
9 PM

Swimming 55:00 [3] 2.2 km (25:00 / km)

Right shoulder started hurting in the main set so stopped early.

Bike hills 2:06:15 [3] 32.38 mi (3:54 / mi) +769m 3:38 / mi

I met Rich near Shere and he proceeded over the next hour to rip my legs off. Plenty of hills finishing up Whitedowns.
