Event: OMM 2017

Note

The perils of going super lightweight, it was all or bust this year and we ended up with bust.

We were fine when moving, which we were doing well, but a howler searching for Pinacle Bield resulted in a long time not staying warm. Eventually found the control. Made quite a few mistakes to the next control and all impetus had gone. Slogging it round the rest of the (great looking) course was probably doable, but without the impetus and already chilled would have been foolhardy. A decission was made to bail back to Langdale. I think this was correct, continuing would have only seen us likely run in to trouble.

I put a lot of presume on myself and crumpled. Another nail in thr coffin of my opinion of Glaramara!

Other than a few O events when I was fairly new and out of my depth, this is the first DNF I've had and it doesn't feel good. Bedders and the Streets (original pirate material) were also back in the hutch.

This will sting for a bit.

Running - Trail 3:00:00 [3] 16.0 km (11:15 / km) +900m 8:47 / km
shoes: Xtalon 212 #9 (GtWhernside'17)

Maybe a little sloppy to 2 (wrong side of sergeant man but corrected quickly) and 3 (30s probably).

Trying to work out why I picked my lower line to 5. I thought it was easier underfoot initially, easier to cross stream gulleys lower down. Also though climbing up next to a stream would be safer which is a mega oversight.
Went in with the same attitude as MT, was well on it there but not today. I do seem to spanner nav up more when others (partners, relay team mates, Perry!) are thrown in to the mix, than when going solo.

ITW with Craig, initiation of the Storth Lane Centre of Excellence.

On Sunday I managed to run into (what I thought was) a W14 (turns out it was actually Fran Brown. Same difference) - the perils of looking at your map. A little soreness creeping in around my upper torso but eased a bit as run went on. Been for a sports massage to ease out a dirty great knot in my back.
