SYO Sandalbeat thicket hunting

Pushed off-line more than should be in this terrain, surprised to run only 300m more than advertised distance. Thought I'd gone OK but got done by Chappers by 30s - can I claim walking around the white course beforehand gave him an unfair advantage?

Ras Moel Eilio, Intercounties fell champs. 51st.

Nothing doing today. Started fairly conservatively and sensibly and felt OK once we got onto the fell. However, where 4 weeks ago I'd have eased on the gas and felt strong and in control, today I soon started going backwards, unable to push at all, comfortably or not. By the top of Eilio I was behind the first 4 women and runners from Fell Running powerhouses such as Devon and Leicestershire. I proceeded to catch a few on the downs before losing them all, with interest, on the next climb. On the last climb to Cynghorion, Tim Budd from Glossopdale caught me up so I had a good moan to him as Lou Roberts came past again (for the 4th time) which I feel a bit bad about as I probably came across as a whinging excuse maker.

Caught plenty on the descent (but I should at this stage in the field) despite not moving well at all. Conceded a place in the last 1/2mile without so much as a whimper and there was nothing I could do about it.

Such a shame I couldn't back Alex Piltcher (7th) and Billy Cartwright (32nd) up for a fair team result (Bond had cried off in the week, 4th team member random tubby lad).

Lovely day out though and we move on. Fitness is there it's just something not connecting at the moment.

Over in Whaley on most Wednesdays for the rest of the year (Festival chorus of Handel's Messiah) so decided might as well get a run in each time with SSB as he lives 100m from where we rehearse. Good paced clip around and about - not threshold but a bit quicker than steady (although Hr suggests differently after a few days off), the kind of run I've been lacking since the end of winter. Instigated a bit of needle regards Saturday's DNF but I'll save the hairdryer for next time he does it. There'll probably be one.

Blew a few cobwebs out and he even fed me afterwards.

Again felt terrible all day so sacked off any idea of running (or attending a post-work seminar) and headed home for food and rest. Perked up a bit when Des asked me to rep The Shire this weekend, team looks pretty decent all told.

legs easing as days go on.

Still hacked off about Saturday - not about my race though, made peace with that shortly after it.
Nope, a member of my club, henceforth known as 'just a shit Stuart Bond' (SSB) wasn't having a very good run but was still positioned in our counting team for both open and V40s. He proceeded to jog the last descent, got into the finish field but didn't cross the line. He didn't mention DNF'ing to me when we spoke after the race so was obviously chicken - first I knew about it was when his Strava came up with the name 'DNF: not putting my name to that shit'. Given that our V40 team is pushing for a medal overall, I find this behaviour thoroughly reprehensible.

Writing this purely as an outlet in the hope I don't call him a selfish cunt to his face.
