Event: JK 2012

2 PM

Running - Road warm up/down 9:13 [1] 1.77 km (5:12 / km) +27m 4:50 / km
shoes: X-talon 212 (2)

Orienteering - Urban 17:40 [5] **** 3.97 km (4:27 / km) +18m 4:21 / km
spiked:17/26c slept:6.5 shoes: X-talon 212 (2)

This made up somewhat for the York debacles. A few slight wobbles (5, 12, 21, 24) and duff RCs (went north to 2; obligatory at #5; right to 13; went high in to 14(?!) ). Slowed right down in the contours at the end to minimise mistakes. However I never felt rushed or confused at any point and took a few scalps. Would like to have been lower in the 17s though - could have pushed harder.

Men's and Ladies' courses planned so I pretty much had a head-to-head with Mairead throughout.

Running - Road warm up/down 10:50 [2] 2.19 km (4:57 / km) +15m 4:47 / km

Lethargic and flat, river then suburbia, as well as a check out of the wood near 'awesome area 1' and a bit of a look at 'potential awesome area 2'.

bring it on Keith!

Running - Road 30:46 intensity: (2:00 @2) + (28:46 @3) 7.41 km (4:09 / km) +11m 4:07 / km
slept:7.5 shoes: Asics Afforest

Late in work (due to E.coli growing better than expected which is a novelty), had a little time to get out before grub so went to check out a place I've been casing from the car as a potential sprint area. It didn't disappoint and it looks cracking, albeit a little small, although there is a small wood behind it which may be of use to extend it.

I then headed back via Thornaby centre. En route I went through another highly promising looking estate which is bigger, will go have a better look another time. I'll have to get my hand on some mapping software and have a go at putting it on paper!

7km cruised in 28:47 then easy back. Cold nearly gone, knee no issue. Really looking forward to the weekend.

grim out, so starting some armchair planning for my event in a couple of months.

Note
slept:7.5 (rest day)

Planned a crash around one of CLOK's premier areas to try and toughen me up a bit, but I've succumbed to a cold (another one! what happened to my bomb-proof immune system?) so am resting up instead. Maybe tomorrow.

Ionut Zinca on the startlist for Coledale next weekend - now there's a curve-ball!

Running - Trail 3:45 [1] 0.66 km (5:41 / km) +20m 4:56 / km
slept:8.0 shoes: Muclaw 333 (3)

Orienteering (Hamsterley Common) 1:05:11 [3] **** 10.25 km (6:22 / km) +322m 5:30 / km
spiked:11/17c shoes: Muclaw 333 (3)

SL: 9.3/275. Heathertastic. Generally positive. Had good plans for most legs.
main problems:

4 - went off bearing, thought spur on ground was the one NW of control so went into the wrong area (handily folded away from view). 2.5-3 mins
6 - hand-railed it, not as runnable as I thought and Duncan caught me up.
8 - not a mistake but heavy going on the contour, Duncan went high and was much quicker. 'Spiked' but about 1min slower.
9 - bearing. Time loss minimised as I could see Duncan making the mistake I was about to.
10 - veered off line at end of leg. Not too bad (20secs)
11- not confident enough from AP into hidden control - need stronger bearing. 40secs headscratching minimised by being lead into it by Paul Taylor.
Then finally got into my running, feeling the best I have since before Christmas. Was close to Duncan's splits (even had him on a few) on the rest of the course excepting:
15 - too far right and overshot - dicey bearing.

2.5 mins off inflicting a forfeit on The Ent. Sorry Guys, some bearing work and I'll get it sorted. Although he is entered as NATO so you can have that one instead. Still 10mins off Duncan, even after he supported leg3 of BG yesterday. Mainly through iffy bearings and being a fanny through the heather on my part. Should have been closer to 60.

Running - Trail 22:24 [2] 4.49 km (5:00 / km) +105m 4:28 / km
shoes: Muclaw 333 (3)

trot around the trails and singletrack, moobs out.

Running - Trail 16:32 [2] 3.35 km (4:57 / km) +56m 4:34 / km
slept:7.5 shoes: Inov8 Oroc 340

Orienteering 48:13 [2] **** 5.14 km (9:23 / km) +178m 8:00 / km
spiked:5/10c shoes: Inov8 Oroc 340

CLOK training at Silton Forest (yummy).
My new O plan is to actually plan before I start off on a leg. This worked at times today but there were some entertaining moments. Re-ran a leg at one point, not that it helped too much.

Running - Trail 12:38 [2] 2.61 km (4:51 / km)
