Running - Road race (Coombs Tor FR) 48:01 [4] 10.98 km (4:22 / km) +292m 3:52 / km
ahr:176 max:210 slept:6.5 shoes: X-talon 212 (1)

Headed over to NM to pick up the car and took in this new race - in aid of the primary school in town I didn't go to - from Little Mill, where I used to work at the shooting range. Legs were still a bit tired but better than yesterday. Up the first climb 1 guy went clear, and I let James Wood (Cong), Lewis Banton (Clowne) and a.n. other get ahead. Got the latter on the descent and struggled up the steep climb to the Tor, James and Lewis getting away but still well in view. Onto the flat I was hoping to pull out a gap on the chasers, but Noel just came right back to me and was on my shoulder until we the last little raise north of Lantern Pike. Managed to maintain the gap on the run-in to the finish (comedy moment of the day - mtb'er failing to unclip and decking it infront of me) to finish 4th. The bloke off the front turned out to be Chris Birchall from Leeds City AC (thought it was Andy Pead during the race) 4mins up on me. James was 1.40 up and Lewis .40, with Noel 8 secs behind. The rest were 2+mins back.
Normally I do well on the roads and bridleways which made up the last 6km of this race, but I just didn't have the legs or light feeling required today. However, it was nice to be closer to Lewis than I normal.

Decided against the Plum Fair race in the afternoon - kudos to the Glossopdale boys who ran Combs, then ran the 6miles to Padfield then ran that race (5.5miles)!

Headstone and back from Redmires with Loz. Went a bit excited puppy what with there being some uphill and something other than tarmac. I don't make much of a running partner at the best of times but this excitement made me a completely useless one. looped around a bit and did some terrain stuff. Legs aching after the last 9 days.

Out of work an onto a train for a flying Sheffield visit. Driving will be much cheaper and a little bit quicker in the future.

Out to BMHH, fairly steady but HR suggests otherwise...

Running - Road 28:15 [2] 5.69 km (4:58 / km) +13m 4:55 / km
ahr:161 max:199 shoes: New Balance M849

out to the 'hill' and back.

Running Intervals intervals 19:22 [4] 4.28 km (4:31 / km) +68m 4:12 / km

Sandy Lane 'Hills'- well as close as you get in Billingham. If Sheffield offers C's these are what Mal is used to when he cruises the playgrounds.
'long' hill followed by short sprint hill (4 of the former, 3 of the latter). Was comfortably off the front on the longs and holding others off on the shorts.

There's a guy called paul who's at least 50 who's always not far behind me.

Recoveries were jog down, but there was also a fair amount of resting waiting to grop up, which I wasn't too fussed about.

ahr:159 max:185 slept:7.5 shoes: New Balance M849

A bit of new bike track, then the older one before looping back via Rimwell Drive (HA!) and Ropner park. Would have done another lap of the park but had something heinous to do. Threw in some poor-man's tempo between ~5.5 and 7.5km.

Running - Road 23:57 [3] 5.12 km (4:41 / km) +15m 4:37 / km
ahr:165 max:202 slept:6.5 shoes: New Balance M849

Loop past the station, got caught in a dead-end trying to get back south, couldn't get out the short way as there was a massive scrapyard in the way. Eventually found my way back to the top of my road (grumble) and to the park.

Running Intervals 25:15 [4] 6.0 km (4:13 / km) +17m 4:09 / km
ahr:162 max:191

6x800m;80secs (20 walk, 60 jog) rec, on my owneyo in Ropner Park.
2:44, 2:54, 2:51, 3:02, 2:50, 2:51 (3:3x min/km).
Fairly pleased with all but #4. Wind was swirling and I was running in numerous directions, covering most of the park. Saved the 'climb' from the lake for the last rep.
Would like to have been closer to 2:40 and feel more relaxed but I'll take this at the moment.

Running - Road 12:44 [2] 2.36 km (5:24 / km) +4m 5:21 / km
ahr:142 max:164 shoes: New Balance M849

round the park and back home by way of warm-down.

Headed back home after work then ran back out to Billingham Marsh House Harriers (who's track is about 100m from work). Pushed it a little bit to start with as wanted to be prompt.

The problem with finishing at 5 and training starting at 6.30 is that there's nowt to do in Billingham in that hour and a half (I may take up swimming - that'd fill the hole...), and if I head home it's just to sit around for 15mins before heading out.

Running - Road 52:01 [2] 10.94 km (4:45 / km) +39m 4:40 / km

Today was a recovery run as quite a few did the Tees pride yesterday (a 10k race, not a gay pride parade...). Nice and sociable, good group of guys, nice easy pace with a couple of not-quite-Farah wind-ups on the way. They were mostly sprightly vets, but looking at XC/road race results they've got a few quicker blokes (34min 10k ballpark) knocking about. A bit of waiting and looping (and one piece of quality wurzelling!) but I was quite happy with that.

Had a big wait when one of the guys got impaled on some glass which was hidden in the grass - straight through his shoe and into his heel - feel quite lucky as I spent a fair amount of time running on the grass before that.
Also had some kids dragging golf-carts join us for a bit.

At the end of the run we were greeted by a bloke with a hawk of some sort on his arm walking around - think he'd managed to lose one of his.

Got the bus back, but at £1.80 for a 3mile trip I'll run back in future if it's been a fairly easy session - don't want to overdo the flat road running atm incase I develop shinsplints - but hopefully I'm past that by now.
