Note
slept:8.0 (rest day)

Last week's alcohol intake:
Firday: 1 pint
Saturday: equivalent 2 pints
Sunday: 1 pint
There, I do have some self control!

Still feeling a bit worn. Probably shouldn't have done fresher's +55miles, then a rolling 60miles immediately after recovering from illness. Should be kicking for the OMM.

Running - Trail warm up/down 11:33 [2] 2.12 km (5:27 / km) +49m 4:53 / km
shoes: Xtalon 212 #5 (Late 2014)

Running - Trail race 1:10:14 [4] 12.4 km (5:40 / km) +525m 4:41 / km
slept:7.0 shoes: Xtalon 212 #5 (Late 2014)

Dodgy stomach resolved itself prior to kick-off, but still feeling a bit out of it.
Danny was 18th on leg 1, Wardy was injured (well he hasn't stopped since UTMB) so was replaced by Mark alongside Nat on 2, as such lost a couple of minutes on where we could have been but good run nonetheless. Some good chat with the commentator after making 'call me' signs at him. He initiated it but I can't remember how (honest 'guv!).
Myself and new recruit from Macc, Ian Mills (10th Borrowdale, 1st Downfall) set out in around 24th, big pack 1min or so ahead, HBT not far behind.
First thoughts as I got the map was 'pile of piss, most on line features, little route choice'. This lead me into a massive false sense of security and, as we left B, having just passed Steve Birkenshaw, I briefly glanced at my compass, followed his line then followed the group on the horizon, head down and run. Ended up quite a bit west of control C. Lost ~2min minimum, although lots around us (Keswick, Carnethy, DPvets, CV Open) lost more. Bit of a fudge leaving E, wanting to cross valley higher to svae height but too steep so had to re-drop a bit of height. Tired a bit after 55mins, Keswick ran away but stuck with Carnethy, although DPvets arrived. Kept ahead of HBT.
Felt like I was moving well on the hill, and Ian complemented my speed and strength. However, looking at the leg times (17th, beaten by Mudge/Jasmin as well as Quentin) I'm frustrated, maybe I'm not fully up to speed? For current states it was a good comfortable-hard effort. Finished in 17/18th (dependent on Eryri finishing blunders - not marked on map though so don't think they can really be DQ'd?).

Team finished 16th (15th club) - we sent Simon out with Tom Adams, Andy Fallas and Max Wharton nearby and, whilst he is very good, he's still getting into it after the cow episode. At least solidified ourselves as the Peak District's 'best of the west'. On the men's side at least - the ladies beat DPFR ladies!

Along the trail with le Spainiards and Mark, Lucy's brother. He's got the genes and, despite just starting to cut out the fags he could be handy!

guts a bit iffy

Note
slept:8.5 (rest day)

100km rolling 7 off the back of illness. Feeling tired but good. Time to cut down pre-OMM anyway - new race jacket arrived today so I won't be carrying 1kg of soaked-up water any more!

45/15s. 15s never delt so short. Lessened some of the leg exercises.
When 'a little less conversation' came on I asked my group if they remembered the Nike 'cage' adverts it sound-tracked. I was met with blank faces. #grandad
Thankfully TTDP was there to remove some of the stigma.

Running - Trail 57:27 [2] 8.87 km (6:29 / km) +304m 5:32 / km
slept:7.5 weight:74.1kg shoes: Mizuno Wave Harrier 3

Stopped off at Snake summit on way home before going to Steve Birkinshaw's talk in Buxton.
Feeling tired so had ditched the win-lose-win idea. Planned to just run out and back, but crossed the Doctor's Gate path and decided to have an explore. Headed down (not very nice path to descend) into the valley before using a trod up to Shelf Moor. Then over to the Wainstones and Bleaklow Head before heading back to Snake summit.

This week's Alcohol intake:
Monday: 0 (ill)
Tues: 2 pints (session)
Weds: >5 pints (Freshers' Meal)
Thurs: 2 Pints
Fri: 5 pints (Ross Noble)
Sat: 3 pints (session; Cocker/Hawley)

If I want to be doing c.60mile weeks this winter I can't drink this much. With doing extra things anyway, reducing rest time, having extra alcohol kicking about my system to further slow recovery is a recipe for disaster. I must be more disciplined.

'Social, introductory run'. Bit late advertising it to ShUOC so mainly old hands. Over to Porter, up it a bit, down then back home over Crookes.

Went all Tour of Flanders on Thrush Street before working my way around Stannington, Dungworth and Ice Cream at OCM, then Rod Side, down my new favourite road to Bradfield and back via Loxley.

HFW with sack. Porter, Crimicar, Rivelin top and bottom, Heroes (staggered up in 7:50ish). Felt really tired after 20-odd mins. Demolished the banana I didn't have at lunch, had a poo and felt OK after - similar procedure to hangover management.
Pleased to report tiny horses present in the field of tiny horses.
