Not a great day. Woke up with a sore right upper hamstring, but only while sitting. Walking and jogging seemed ok, so I drove up to Hayes Nature Park. Took exit 8a instead of 8 so couldn't find it. Stopped at the Clifton Park library and the receptionist (they can afford a receptionist?) Googled it for me and pointed out the first result, which was in Alaska. I immediately tracked down a real librarian, who found it for me (even though he'd lived in Clifton Park 25 years and never heard of it). On the way out the receptionist against pointed to the Alaskan web page on her screen.
The course consisted of 3 maps at 3 scales, plus a clue sheet, plus a punch card, none of which were waterproof. In retrospect, each one needed to go in its own bag. By control 3 when I had to do the first "map exchange", everything was a soggy mess. Ran off the map on the way to 4-5, later realized this was because my Garmin is influencing my compass. That could explain some other bad results in the past year. On rogaines, my teammate has traditionally been the compass person, so no problems there.
My wife needed the car back by 1230 so I had to DNF. At least the leg felt ok.
