Running 10:00 [1] 2.0 km (5:00 / km)
shoes: 201802 Asics GT1000

Run from MaRS to the start of the 10k.

Running race 44:10 [4] 10.0 km (4:25 / km)
shoes: 201802 Asics GT1000

Toronto Marathon event; the 10k race.

Well, shit.

Running 15:00 [1] 2.4 km (6:15 / km)
shoes: 201802 Asics GT1000

Run from La Palma back to Mars. While I ran the 10k today (poorly), Smirnov, Lauren, and Conny ran the 5k. All three exceeded their expectations and had good runs. The 10k started 30 minutes before the 5k and finished at the same spot, so I had time to finish, grab a drink, and get in position to cheer loudly when Smirnov came through in 23. We then moseyed to La Palma for brunch.

Running 15:40 [1] 3.2 km (4:54 / km)
shoes: 201802 Asics GT1000

Hart House: Warmup on the treadmill for maximal self-loathing.

Biking 23:00 [3] 10.0 km (26.1 kph)

Stationary biking for social reasons. It ended prematurely when I accidentally pushed the irrevocable "cooldown" button.

Erg 22:30 [1] 5.0 km (4:30 / km)
shoes: 201802 Asics GT1000

Fun times on the erg; ~24 spm, 2:15 pace. I threw in a few power 10s for nostalgia.

Running 10:00 [1] 2.0 km (5:00 / km)
shoes: 201802 Asics GT1000

Strides on the track; 5x140m and a few easy laps. I have a 10 km road race coming up on Sunday; I expect to be disappointed given my weak fitness. I would be content (given crap fitness) with sub-40, but I think 41 or 42 is more realistic. Le sigh. It will set a good baseline, and Smirnov and I are already talking about a fall race - perhaps a half. I am toying with the idea of training for a marathon for 2019 as a motivational goal.

Oh, to be Rassmus Anderson on the Long Night.

Epic move Part Eh: The Canadian chapter

Today, I moved my belongings from my first Canadian apartment to my second. I'm moving to a somewhat larger and certainly more conveniently located to my work, though sadly I am moving further from High Park. I'm quite close to Cedarvale park, so I should still be able to feel the grass beneath my feet.

Anyway, despite several friends offering to help, I elected to move everything alone as my penance for owning crap. I have relatively little furniture - a bookshelf, beloved IKEA desk, coffee table, and chair, but way too much miscellaneous crap. I got a good squat + deadlift workout while working out my forearms as I desperately clung to awkward boxes. I plan to reduce my belongings by at least 1/3 of their mass through a combination of giving away books, trashing stuff that can't be reused, and selling or giving away redundant items, e.g. at least two of my three swords and two of my six computers.

Still, while it was a tremendous effort, there were fewer moments of abject stupidity than I've had in previous moves. I haven't achieved full asceticism, but I'm getting marginally closer. I was able to load, move, and unload all of my possessions in about 6 hours, so at least I have that going for me.

This made me laugh:
