The goal for this workout was to run a loop encircling the main part of the Middlesex Fells. I stopped at Alewife for a drink of water and upon my arrival at home, I drank the most delicious glass of chocolate milk I have ever had. I finished Ringworld by the end; it was an acceptable story. My legs felt heavy and sluggish even before I started the run, but I was sufficiently ginger with the pace that I was ok by the end. I was very thirsty for much of the run, and I ate a Gu about two hours in.

Spinning class with Megan and Kevin. For maximum absurdity, I biked to and from the class. The class itself was arduous.

River run with a ten minute tempo run. I have discovered a new cruise interval location in plain sight.

My Garmin apparently decided it was out of memory on this outing. GPS was initially wonky.

After about 25:00 warmup run to the track, I ran:
6x100m strides, 100 jog
4x1200m bouts, 2:00 recovery between
Run home.

I felt hippo-sluggish tonight; it was a struggle. My split times were in the pedestrian neighborhood of 4:15 - 4:25. I ran with 180 bpm techno, and kept my cadence at that pace. I suspect dehydration, heat, and poor conditioning. The temperature was about 27 C.

Running 24:00 intensity: (6:00 @1) + (4:00 @4) + (14:00 @5) 5.6 km (4:17 / km)

The intervals.

Running 22:00 [1] 3.8 km (5:47 / km)

Run home.

Rhymes with Code softball match against the Misfits from the Draper Lab. We lost 21-8, but they scored 12 points in an offensive rout in the first inning. We held them scoreless in innings 5-7. It seems possible to me that they stopped trying, but our defense and pitching were much better late game. I went 1/1 on pop flies - a deep ball to center field that I ran down and caught after a bounce in my glove. All the other hits I fielded were grounders or line drives - one of which I had a small chance of chasing down and catching, though I decided to stop it rather than risking it racing past me on the astroturf.

Our offense was disappointing; we only had two points runs after the first five innings. I went 1/3 at bat with a single (later scored), and two force outs at first. Lesson: when a pitch is ruled "illegal" - i.e. it rises higher than the allowed 10 feet, it enters play if you hit it. The ump called a pitch illegal a moment before I pounded it to the shortstop; I didn't run, and I was forced out at first. Sadness.
