Note

Had an allergic reaction or something from the grass we ran through on Friday and my legs have not stopped itching since. Quite unpleasant.

Well, the 24 hours leading up to this were absolutely terrible. We were at the Black Sea the past few days and left yesterday after running a sprint in the afternoon. The original plan was to go straight to the hotel here at Bansko and we would've arrived around 10, BUT my grandmother has no concept of time or distance and insisted on imediately going home, so we drove there. Didn't leave home until almost midnight, with a four hour drive to here. 2am, huge damn pothole in the road with no warnings and there we are with two flat tires(along with two other cars). Some service guys with zero interest for other people are just sitting there knowing that cars will hit the hole and waiting to make some money...... They fixed the rims and we began again, and I finally went to sleep at 5:30 am. About 2 hours sleep in the car and 3 in a bed.

Well to the race, there weren't many people and I started slow dropping to the back from the beginning. At one point I passed a couple guys then was alone for a very long time wondering how far the next person was. Caught two boys and stayed ahead. Once we reached the huge mountain (at 5 miles) they started catching back up and eventually passed me. But they would stop and take breaks then sprint a few steps so I stayed right behind them. The climb just got steeper and steeper holy cow... Basically most of the climb at the end.

Kind of got to the start and they were just sending people off, so no warm up. I was expecting a much clearer park sprint, but it was all annoying grass and brambly woods. I must've gone through at least 50 spider webs. Also I was waking up boxes in the beginning lol. There was one trail basically just not there and with that I had a lot of bushwacking to do in shorts...

Yeaaaah, pretty slow today. It was once again 90 degrees and I basically just walked a lot cuz it wasn't a big race for my age group. (most of the 18 year olds whose course I ran beat me...) (it was a juniors meet so they were all racing). I could have made some better route choices in the beginning, the reentrants were really really steep and difficult to use them so if there's the option to go all the way around them it was a much better choice.

Started by going up a steep staircase then explored up some trails going up this hill and a bunch led to nowhere so I went up and down. One part I even ended going up some woods for a little. Then continued on a trail going up the hill. Going back down I ran up the stairs again and they looped and zigzagged with some paths and a path that went the same way so I went up and down a few times.

So my dad put on an adventure race and I had to go pick up two controls. I started thinking it would be easy since it was basically trails and the controls were just off the trail. For the first one (since I didn't have a compass) I was just slightly off and hit a trail that I thought was beyond the control. I tried o use that but ended up down somewhere completely different upon also hearing a wailing fox in the distance. After relocating and once again attacking from the trail I found the control, upon also realizing there were A BUNCH of trails not on the map (DAD). I left the control and started running down the first trail I saw, which turned out to be unmapped and was curving around in all sorts of circles. I decided to bushwhack in the general direction of where I thought I had to go (in shorts and HOKAS, UGH) (hit my leg on a cliff and scraped it!) and ended up on some other bigger trail, still not knowing where I was. I began running and heard the wailing fox again, then it started getting louder and scarier and I just took off down the trail in hopes of getting away. Then I somehow recognized where I was on the map and continued along. The end.
