And then the long drive back to Uppsala. Sofie took two 1.5 hour naps which made the drive easier.

Walking around Copenhagen. As long as I'm not carrying anything on my back I can manage walking ok.

Long Final.

Back was still tight though I think getting better. Or I'm just getting used to it. Hard to tell. Not pleased with my race, unfortunately. There were some good parts, like controls 10 - 15, but way too many mistakes. Big mistakes on 2 and 7. I was super annoyed at 7, as it was my second big mistake of the race. I therefore blew 8 in my frustration and took a bad route to 9. But then I calmed down and had the best section of my race. I think I missed 18 due to carelessness and just a feeling of wanting to be done. And my route to 16 was horrible, again I just didn't have enough energy or willpower to put enough thought into a route.

I wasn't that far behind the lead and only 2 minutes from 3rd place, which I could easily find out there. As always, it goes to show that 1) you should never give up! (I didn't! I just got a bit too angry with myself) and 2) If I'm having trouble then other people probably are too.

Ahh, I couldn’t keep my mouth shut in the JWOC discussion about Emma. I know answering trolls is the wrong thing to do, but I’ve been victim of bashing on attackpoint and it’s so hard to stand up for yourself. I’ve always been grateful when others have stood up for me. Plus, you can’t be mean to a female junior orienteer and just expect me to sit by quietly. Though I’ve told myself that I’m done, and answering will just prolong the unneeded conversation.... but there are people wrong on the internet. ;)

Middle final. I started well and had good route to the first 3 controls. I hesitated a bit when leaving 2 to make sure I had a plan for 3. Then leaving 3 I heard someone behind me and turned around to see the woman who started after me punching. I somehow lost about 45 seconds to her without making any mistakes! The back was very sore again, so it does take me awhile to warm up. Promptly went braindead on 4, but then got my act together and sped up as it was shameful how much faster than me she was running.

I was cleaner than her, but could never get away. Then made a big mistake on 9 (2 minutes), and so was alone for a bit of the way to 10 before she caught back up to me. I heard in the arena that I was in 13th place, which was disappointing but must have lit some fire in me. I flew around the last loop, catching 1.5 minutes on the lead even with a small miss on one control. Felt great to run hard and really feel like I was attacking the course and leaving everything out there. If only it always felt that good to orienteer!

Qualification race. Not a great race, but not terrible. Lots of hesitations and double checking, but never completely lost. Just confused :) Twice I basically stumbled upon my control which is always a bit disconcerting. Back was very painful during the warm up and the first few controls but then it loosened up again (or all the ibuprofen kicked in) and I could put it mostly out of my mind.

Model for the qualification race and the middle. Really difficult to run. Very painful, especially if I have to duck and raise my legs, which happens quite a bit in the greener forest.
