Orienteering race 1:41:09 [5] 13.13 km (7:42 / km) +359m 6:47 / km
ahr:162 max:177

Tiomila - Damkavlen - Leg 3 for OK Nolaskogsarna.

Went off in about 130th place, so not quite the nice pack from last year - I still should have had a pack to run with though (if I hadn't stuffed it so badly).

Felt completely flat and devoid of energy, so wasn't really able to push it. My cold hasn't got heaps worse but it's making running at any kind of intensity pretty difficult.

Got in front of the pack at 2 and made a stupid decision to go cross country to the control - cue 5min or more of clambering slowly through rock and making a parallel error instead of calmly running around the track and coming at it from behind. Needless to say I lost the pack.

I gained a tail on the long leg to 4 and was OK until the circle when I didn't use my compass from my attack point and also panicked that I'd somehow got to 5. So more time lost there, and again on 6 when I didn't climb enough and missed below the control. Small one at 7, just dropped too low.

Caught back up to Tara at 10 and we formed our own little pack, so the rest of the course went OK barring one of the later controls when we missed the highpoint. Well off the pace overall, disappointed I couldn't at least have a solid navigational run even if I wasn't feeling 100%. Still fun but not quite as fun as last year.

Really gentle yog to wake up / loosen up my legs. Again not feeling way worse today. A little bit overheated and muscle-sore on the run, breathing maybe a bit harder than usual.

Note
(rest day)

Not feeling waaay worse today, but a bit run down. Decided on a rest.

Jogging 4:36 [3] 0.91 km (5:03 / km) +3m 4:58 / km

To work because one of the guys I work with can be a bit of a knob so I had to go rescue him.

Jogging 5:00 [3] 0.88 km (5:41 / km) +11m 5:21 / km

Home from work again.
11 AM

Cycling 1:34:52 [3] 36.06 km (22.8 kph) +511m

What a grim ride! Started off OK, just solo again around Damflask, but the heavens opened and I got soaked! I also tried to wuss out on the way home and instead of going over Stannington, I went back down Loxley and along Rivelin Rd to the A57. But the wind had picked up and Rivelin Rd was a real slog anyway!

Woke up this morning with a bit of a scratchy throat, hoping it doesn't progress into anything.
5 PM

Jogging 36:27 [2] 5.76 km (6:20 / km) +220m 5:19 / km

Run with Mary's group from Virgin Active for the Brooks day. Not exactly a speedy one, but she took us to Meersbrook park and the goal was just to run up the hill from every angle so I did get to take some of it at my own pace. Quite fun actually, nice group of people. Not quite the run on my program but I am not feeling amazing so might be for the best.

Swimming 1:00:00 [3] 3.0 km (20:00 / km)

Swim at Goodwin. Shoulder was completely healed! I actually enjoyed this, which is rare. And felt like I had the ability to do a bit of work for once, which was nice, so I did some sold 66s, 100s and a 200.
5 PM

Jogging warm up/down 20:08 [3] 4.14 km (4:52 / km) +45m 4:37 / km

6 PM

Running intervals 11:11 [4] 3.0 km (3:44 / km)
ahr:171 max:178

3 x 1km steady with 400 jog recovery. First one felt comfortable, HR was a little higher than I would have liked in the last two. Didn't want to smash myself, just turn the legs over before Tio. Charlotte ran beside me with a map, good practice making decisions under pressure - she seemed to find it pretty comfortable!

Running intervals 1:48 [4] 0.5 km (3:36 / km)

5 x Strides, not really pushing them just trying to keep my core solid.

Jogging warm up/down 26:22 [3] 5.18 km (5:05 / km) +53m 4:51 / km

Recoveries and warm down.

Social Run Group. Taking the slow group, which I was not unhappy to do for once, because I was still pretty tired.

Had a ride on the program but decided it would be sensible to have a rest.

Northern Champs at Wass.

Felt OK at the start of this race, but by the end I was really having a struggle. Again I didn't hit it really hard but just tried to put a bit of pressure on myself. Was a bit disappointed in myself for being really messy on several controls, I was having trouble setting good attack points and hesitating a lot into the circle. Good practice for orienteering tired I guess (or just practicing bad habits?). Was just off on 1 and 2, really slow and hesitating into 3, was too low and lost a minute on 6, dumb route choice on 11, and completely wrong bearing on 21.

Can't say I enjoyed the map or course. It was very steep and covered in brambles, and we had one leg which climbed 15 contours - only to turn around and drop them all again on the next. Being tired I fell over a lot and am now covered in scratches. But I am Northern Champion - yay.
