MOC Stage 2 - Long

I enjoyed the terrain because it was very Aussie. Main trees were very similar to our native pine and even the undergrowth was familiar. Lots of patches of clear erosion that reminded me a bit of Tassie tin mining.

Again, strapped the ankle heavily and was probably a bit of a wuss on some of the rougher patches. Made a big mistake at 1, lost maybe 5min. The rest of the course was OK, my route to 7 was probably unnecessarily wide, but only lost maybe 30s on 3 or 4 others. Spent most of the course leading around a young Ukranian that I caught, and a young Italian who maybe caught me. They weren't too keen on doing any of the navigation!

Don't feel super tired after this, so probably should have pushed it harder. Otherwise I'm reasonably happy with it.

MOC Stage 1 Sprint in Montblanc (the Catalan one, not the French one). This was so fun! Most of the map was a medieval old town which still had a wall surrounding most of it. Twisty little allies and squares. Much more hype than yesterday's event, but still a bit disorganised - turns out a lot of the field started 30s early, and the results seem to have cut off everyone's first control time, so they're a mess.

I strapped the ankle heavily and it seemed to hold up OK. I made one big mistake between 6 and 7 when I decided to take the left route before realising that would involve scrabbling over a large steep grassy hill (which my ankle was not pleased about). Also a mistake on 12 when I went to the wrong inside fence corner. Otherwise a decent run, I was happy with most of my decision making and speed.

MOC Prologue in Tarragona.

Because of the lack of any information, I believed this was part of the "MOC Championship". However, turns out that all the elites (most of whom had been at the MOC Camp all week) ran in an awesome, three-stage knock out sprint today, while this event was a poorly organised "middle distance" (read: long park sprint) on a crappy, poor quality map. Pretty frustrated to be honest, I feel like it wouldn't have been that hard to put up some details.

It doesn't help that I badly rolled / sprained my ankle on the way to #1. Jogged the rest of the course.

Level B YHOA Superleague event at Tankersley. I went out hard on this, and I made some silly mistakes. But I had a ball! Cool area with a detailed track network and some technical contour details from old mining works.

I lost time on 1, which was really simple, because I went the wrong direction from my attack point. On 4 my route choice was a mess, keeping quite far to the right at the beginning of the leg and then taking a bit of a right angled left into the control. On 6 I made a rookie almost-parallel error on a track. For 13 in the circular-features area I went too low and had to circle back to the saddle. Then on 16 someone ran up behind me and asked "did you punch 16?" to which I replied "I'm not up to it yet!" - this threw me off completely and I compassed to the wrong pit.

The rest of the course was good navigationally but I got some stomach cramps on the way to 19 and had to make an emergency stop (in a less-than-sheltered area). But overall I enjoyed trying to keep the speed high and I think while it wasn't perfect, it wasn't too bad!
