Note
(sick) (rest day)

Staying away from exercise the next few days in the hope I can shake this cold before the weekend.

Sunday May 7, 2017 #

10 AM

Jogging warm up/down 5:48 [3] 1.0 km (5:48 / km)
(sick)

Orienteering race 40:02 [4] 5.1 km (7:51 / km)
ahr:164 max:176 (sick)

British Relay Championships.

Once again, I wasn't seriously expecting to be competitive - but I did think I could perhaps sit at the back of a slower pack. Would have been able to if I hadn't lost about 1 min at #3 by going to the wrong gaffle. Finished 1-2 min behind the pack so pretty much ran the rest at the same speed, just alone.
Nav on the rest of the course was good, again not going fast enough for a serious mistake.

Ruined SYO's chances of a medal by not being a Brit - something which hadn't crossed my mind (idiot). Despite my time being 4 minutes behind the leaders, Pippa put us in 1st, and Kim had a blinder of a run to hold a comfortable lead. Sorry guys!!!
11 AM

Jogging warm up/down 6:17 [3] 0.9 km (6:59 / km)
(sick)

12 PM

Jogging warm up/down 9:00 [3] 1.5 km (6:00 / km)
(sick)

Oh just brilliant timing. Woke up with a sore throat, it got worse from there during the drive up to the Lakes.

Orienteering race 1:49:44 [4] 11.4 km (9:38 / km)
ahr:154 max:168 (sick)

This was just awful. I should have pulled out (or not started). You cannot seriously hope to be competitive in the Lakes even if you are feeling a little bit off, let alone feeling the way I was. Completely lacking energy, really sore body.

Navigation wasn't a complete disaster, mostly because I was going too slow to stuff it up badly. Lost time in the middle of the leg at #2 when my delirious brain refused to accept the presence an irrelevant wall-track junction - but actually nailed the control in the circle. Lost more time on #3 when I went up the wrong gully.

Again had a complete lack of mental ability at #10 when I overshot the feature by several hundred metres, and again at #12 when I headed off at a 45 degree angle. Final mistake was at #18 when I climbed the wrong side of a pretty obvious cliff.

Swimming 1:00:00 [3] 3.0 km (20:00 / km)

Shortish swim to loosen up.

Thursday May 4, 2017 #

12 PM

Cycling 1:53:02 [3] 41.6 km (22.1 kph)

This was quite a bit longer and harder than intended. Up some back lanes to Ringinglow, from the top of Ringinglow down to Hathersage via the nameless road parallel to the Dale, down to Grindleford and back up Frogatt. Brutal headwind at the top of Frogatt on the unsheltered bit.
7 PM

Jogging 46:13 [3] 9.1 km (5:05 / km)
ahr:149 max:169

Just an easy jog. Didn't feel amazing.

Wednesday May 3, 2017 #

5 PM

Jogging 40:22 [2] 6.0 km (6:44 / km) +138m 6:02 / km

V slow shop run to Norfolk Park.

Tuesday May 2, 2017 #

5 PM

Jogging warm up/down 20:55 [3] 4.1 km (5:06 / km)
slept:10.0

Jogged to the shop to meet Rich and run down to Woodbourn Rd. Nice big sleep last night and a lazy morning sitting around and eating. Planned to do a swim but couldn't get off my bum.
6 PM

Running intervals 3:47 [5] 1.2 km (3:09 / km)
ahr:175 max:185

Just a quick one - after racing on the weekend, and also I've got British Champs this weekend. 3 x 400m with 600 recovery. Feeling much better than last week, slow but felt I had some energy / strength. Not sure about the HR readings, my Garmin thinks I got to 190 at some point which seems high.

Jogging warm up/down 33:42 [3] 6.2 km (5:26 / km)

Recoveries and warm down along the canal.
