Note
(rest day)

Wish I could have slept until like 3pm. But I had to work. Knackered.

Note

I did do a warm up but it was so rushed I forgot to record it.
10 AM

Orienteering race 30:44 [5] 5.3 km (5:48 / km)
ahr:172 max:179

JK Relay.

Out on first leg - which I love. I would love it even more if I could keep up - maybe on a different day! I feel that the junior women running the senior relay had an unfair advantage because they only ran for 50min yesterday!

The course was not particularly challenging, and I really had just two small wobbles - early on at #3 I decided I would not follow everyone and they were all going too high (they weren't). Then later on the long leg after the spectator I turned up a ride which I had misread as a track and had to make a less ideal route choice into the control.

Anyway I did my job as first leg runner - I kept within touching distance of the leaders (under 2 minutes) and sent out Pippa in a good spot. She smashed it to come back in the lead, and with Cat on leg 3 we were almost a sure thing.

And - we won! Pretty awesome for my first JK.

Jogging warm up/down 18:35 [3] 3.1 km (6:00 / km)

Orienteering race 1:28:31 [5] 13.7 km (6:28 / km)
ahr:161 max:174

JK Long Distance (I will put this as intensity 5, but to be fair 161 is a pretty low average).

I have said it before and will say it again, this race was "like flogging a dead horse". I was only very slightly above a jog for most of the race.

First half before the road went OK. I came out on the track to the East on the way to #7 which was a bit unnecessary, and I tried to go through the "white" forest block on the way to #8 and had to make a bit of a right-angled exit.

After the road crossing I was pretty cautious in the rhododendron section, but didn't make any big mistakes. I had a complete brain fade on the second road crossing and lost a little time - and then I went through the wrong gate on the spectator which was daft.

The last loop went well except for #23, where a clearing tripped me up and I lost time hesitating.

Overall it was not the world's worst run, but I just had nothing to give!

Orienteering race 38:32 [5] 5.7 km (6:46 / km)
ahr:168 max:178

JK Middle Distance.

Again, entirely lacking in energy. Went well from #1-4, then overshot #5, hesitated on the way in to #6, and then completely stuffed #7 - it wouldn't have been very hard if I'd noticed the green thicket that could have led me straight to the control. Looked in lots of pits before I found the correct one.

#8 was very slow but not a mistake as such - not sure about mapping 3m high, very close together trees as "rough open". #9 - 14 were fine, then lost time on #15 when the control was another ditch over from where I thought it should be.

Orienteering race 19:11 [5] 4.1 km (4:41 / km)
ahr:173 max:183

JK Sprint Race at Brunel University.

Knew from the first step that this was going to be a looong weekend. Completely lacking in energy, had no "zip" at all.

First 6 controls went fine, lulled me into a false sense of security. Then on the way to #7 I planned my leg, got half way and realised there was a river in the way - oops! I then proceeded to stuff #7 up even more by looking on the wrong side of the wall (I wrongly interpreted the "inside corner" description). Lost about 1 minute on the leg all up.

Lost some more time on #10 by looking in the wrong building indent. The other legs went fine except I took the (quite a bit) longer route choice on #18.

All in all I was 3 minutes down, which is pretty terrible on a sprint. I would also realistically say I lost 30-45s by not having an SI air (I was being cheap).

Jogging warm up/down 9:54 [3] 1.7 km (5:49 / km)

Swimming 40:00 [3] 2.0 km (20:00 / km)

Quick swim to loosen up a bit.
5 PM

Jogging 37:24 [3] 7.0 km (5:21 / km)

Shop run - moved to Thursday due to many of us doing the Half on Sunday. Unsurprisingly, only one person turned up - so we actually moved at a decent pace today.

Cycling 1:39:04 [3] 36.1 km (21.9 kph) +736m

Very leisurely pace spin with Kyhil. Bit of a slog up Manchester Rd into the wind, but the rest of the ride was nice. The massage worked a trick - muscles feeling way better today - still fatigued but not sore.
