Harvester A Race, Leg 4

So I'm not very good at night orienteering! Probably because I do it about once a year. I wasn't quite confident enough to push hard, I was too scared to make a big mistake. Also, felt pretty crappy at 3 in the morning!

Started OK, but a fairly big mistake on 8 made me lose confidence a bit. I tried to follow the small paths into the control, but they were all over the place. At 9 I didn't use my compass well and ended up at the other gaffle (which was apparently on nothing...). OK through the next couple and back across the motorway, but lost quite a bit of time at 19 (whole area was marked as white, but it was an absolute crawl to get around with zero visibility). Then another wobble on the second last one, there was one thicket mapped, but just shit everywhere on the ground, which made it impossible to read.

Pretty terrible vegetation mapping - and since there were almost no contours on the map, there wasn't much more than paths and vegetation to go off. Bit frustrating, but I do struggle with these kind of maps, even during the day.

Anyway, SYO won the handicap, so that's pretty good.
