TL,DR: Didn't follow the plan for this at all, and really paid the price for it. Should know better.
Despite best efforts to reign things in I still went out a bit hard, down at the river crossing in 33 and up the climb in around 36, the latter of which was on a par with previous efforts but felt a bit harder than on the cool wet day a few weeks back. Had to stop and sort my laces out as they were too tight, even after the river crossing, but aside from that I was constantly going past people on the climb.
Settled down to a good pace following Jordan across the top, then got ahead as he lost the track a little. Careful down the ridge and onto the section to the landslide where my mind was telling me I'd gone out too hard and I was going to suffer for it. And sure enough after a few kms of the tree jumping and step climbing on this section had the first cramp twinges in my lower hamstrings, which continued across to Furber.
Was pretty quick up the climb though I wasn't running much, if anything, and at the top had a reasonably quick turnaround, downed some coke, swapping bottles out with Tol who also sent me off with some crisps. Started feeling a bit better on the descent but soon after getting back on the trails was cramping again, and it was pretty much a battle from here on in.
Heat had ramped up by the time I'd hit the firetrail and I was struggling to force food down on the second half, and didn't really succeed aside from shot bloks (but watermelon and orange at the final aid station was welcomed, as well as pouring water over my head).
The bulk of Jameson Valley was hiked, could run the flats and downs but as soon as I hit hills cramp would threaten. As it was, it was slower than in training a few weeks back, and half an hour slower than what I've managed on fresh legs. Still hiked faster than some people running, though did have to focus a bit to keep the pace up at times.
2l water, 2.25l electrolyte, 3 gels, 1.5 packets shot bloks, some scroggen, a cereal bar, some lollies and crisps, couple of slices watermelon & orange.
Like six foot, will be keen to come back and do this again with a better mindset (and training) sometime. Although unlike six foot (and difficulty) can't blame a lack of course knowledge. Missed a few weeks training in Feb and didn't really have the time to do a solid downhill session because of that. Am strong on climbs, but didn't give myself a chance to do what I can on the second half, so left feeling a bit disappointed.

Tol was leading a beginner's trail running trip from Lawson to Wentworth falls, with a few side excursions for waterfalls and caves. I tagged along and swept up at the back as an excuse to test the hammy with some longer time on feet and tougher climbs than I've faced this week. Slow pace but some really nice bits of trail out there.
